The Darksiders series is being continued after a long wait. A first trailer shows that the Horsemen of the Apocalypse are not finished yet.
Game series eventually come to an end – and with the “Darksiders” series, it was thought that it had been a long time ago. After all, the last installment, “Darksiders Genesis,” was released in 2019 and received only “mediocre” reviews, especially after the predecessor Darksiders III had not quite met fan expectations either. Nevertheless, the franchise has a loyal community that has been waiting for a continuation – and it seems that they are finally going to get one.
At the THQ Nordic Showcase, a new Darksiders project was announced with a teaser. The game still does not have a name.
What is shown in the teaser? Unfortunately, the teaser is still quite vague. For most of the time, you only see rocks and boulders illuminated by flames. It is only in the last seconds that you recognize the faces in the stones and hear them shout Horseman!
. This refers to the so-called Charred Council, which in the Darksiders series always assigns missions to the individual Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
What is Darksiders about? Darksiders takes place in a post-apocalyptic scenario. The conflict between heaven and hell was mistakenly triggered, and demons have nearly exterminated humanity, while the celestial powers are slowly but surely being diminished by the demons. War, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, has been blamed for the outbreak of the conflict.
In each installment of the Darksiders series, you take on the role of one of the four Horsemen and try – alongside the adventures of the other Horsemen – to uncover the machinations behind the outbreak of the conflict and the plans of the demons.
What is the gameplay like? The gameplay of the series is a mix of action-packed combat, exploration of the game world, and platforming elements. Fans often describe it as “Zelda in dark” – because many of the basic mechanics are the same or similar, but the presentation is significantly more violent. After all, it involves killing nasty demons, which must, of course, be sent back to hell in a spectacular manner.
Similar to Zelda, you will find new items in a vast world that allow you to explore new areas and perform new maneuvers to reach new zones. Thick boss enemies are, of course, also a must.
What kind of game will this be? Fans are hoping for Darksiders IV. Because in that case, the story would be from the perspective of the last Horseman, Strife. War, Death, and Fury were already playable in the previous installments. In this case, it would likely be a game modeled after the first three Darksiders titles.
However, there is also a chance that it might not be “Darksiders IV,” but a multiplayer offshoot like Darksiders Genesis. This is something that at least the comments on YouTube hope will not be the case.
It remains unclear when the game will be released. Since the game does not even have a name yet, one can assume that development has only just begun. It will probably be a few years before we can slip back into the role of one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse – at least if it is a “Darksiders IV” and not another spin-off like Genesis.
