The Summer Game Fest is approaching and the rumor mill is heating up. Particularly exciting for MMORPG fans: An alleged image from the PlayStation Store shows a new console version of New World!
Update from June 7, 2024: According to industry insider Tom Henderson, New World Aeternum is expected to be released for consoles in October 2024 (via X).
What exactly can be seen in the PlayStation Store? Apparently, the entry in Sony’s virtual store has been removed again. For a time, however, there was a new console version of the online role-playing game listed under “Sponsored” with New World: Aeternum.

What’s behind the leak? Whether this is indeed an early release by Sony or a fake is not clear from afar. However, it is clear that there were already indications that Amazon Games could announce a console version of New World at the Summer Game Fest.
On June 4, 2024, MeinMMO reported that the developers of the MMORPG are introducing a new server structure that relies on so-called shards. These are different copies of the game world, on which the population of the MMORPG is expected to be better distributed in the future. Apparently, the operator is anticipating a surge of players in the not-so-distant future.
Almost simultaneously, the people responsible at Amazon Games teased an “exciting announcement for New World.” Since the last expansion “Rise of the Angry Earth” was unable to raise player numbers to a level justifying comprehensive adjustments to the server structure, we also speculated about the announcement of a console version of New World.
Almost two years ago, there was already a hint that Amazon Games might be working on a console port of the MMORPG. In addition, the combat system of New World is wonderfully suited for the controller. And with The Elder Scrolls Online, it was seen how positively a console launch can impact player numbers.
Wait and drink thistle tea: If there is any truth to the leak, there should be a trailer as well as the official announcement to be seen at today’s opening show by host Geoff Keighley.
