After the end of the Open Beta of Diablo 4, thousands of fans are discussing the new action RPG and sharing their opinions. The consensus is: almost everything about the game is good, Diablo 4 can even rekindle old love. There is a bit of criticism, nonetheless.
This is the current state of Diablo 4:
- On March 27, the Open Beta of Diablo 4 ended at 9:00 PM German time. More than a million players participated, according to Blizzard.
- Although there was only limited content, some players reported playing for 50 hours or more.
- Many are now eagerly waiting to finally be able to play Diablo 4 again. They feel that everything else seems dull.
This is what players say: In forums, on Reddit, and also in the comments here on MeinMMO, the reactions to Diablo 4 are overwhelmingly positive. Players are excited about what they have seen.
It is said, for example: “Diablo 4 is the best Diablo experience I have had in a long time,” and especially players who haven’t played in years are impressed:
I am 38 and have felt that I am slowly done with video games. Here and there a AAA game, but I never really got into it. When I played the beta of Diablo 4, it sparked a joy again that I haven’t felt in gaming for a long time.

Other comments from noticeably older players agree, feeling the same way. Others are ironically angry with Diablo 4, saying: They were happy with Diablo 3. Now, after the test, they would much rather play Diablo 4. Everything else feels dull now.

“I assumed Blizzard could do more”
This was well received: The biggest praise goes especially to the gameplay and the world of Diablo 4. The game finally feels like what fans have missed since Diablo 2 23 years ago. The world is dark, the atmosphere is oppressive, the enemies wonderfully disgusting. MeinMMO reader Alex K. summarizes his impression:
I was able to play the beta on both weekends and found it very successful so far. The world looks beautifully dark, dungeons are very well designed, and the carnage is a lot of fun. I often missed a free camera to admire the murals from another perspective.
For me, Diablo 4 has everything that a sequel should have and a bit more.

Especially the worry about the dark world grew due to a new gameplay video shortly before the beta. However, the test dispelled the concerns: Diablo 4 is indeed as dark as it promises to be.
Even the major controversy, the Shared World of Diablo 4, is hardly seen as a criticism anymore. The MMO elements are present, but not intrusive. Only a small part of the players still insists on a purely solo experience.
An expert has warned beforehand that you are ruining Diablo 4 for yourself with too much hype. The game is really good, but it’s also not the savior of the genre. You should not expect “the best game of all time”, as no game could fulfill that.
This was not well received: The major criticism of Diablo 4 remains the endgame. Dungeons were somewhat repetitive even in the beta. If they look like this in the end, it could become boring quickly. A few critical voices:

- MeinMMO reader Tatsu: “I think I have seen basically everything in the beta of Diablo 4. Too few skills or hardly any options for these. In D3 there were, I believe, 4 options; now there are still only 2. It will probably only be 1 to 2 builds per class that perform well.”
- MeinMMO reader NahYou (already after the pre-order weekend): “The game is pretty, the gameplay fun. However, the content is somehow just ‘meh’. The world feels primarily like a running simulator, as it is very empty, and the story and side quests are very scattered. And they are sometimes at such a low level as old WoW world quests, so also long-term rather meager.”
On Reddit, critical voices are significantly in the minority, which is a rare phenomenon. Normally, the biggest critics can be found there. However, there was probably too much complaining about the betas.
Some players have complained about just about everything over the past few days, which eventually called the “silent majority” to action. They reminded that you don’t have to play Diablo 4 if you find it so bad:
