In the MMORPG Lost Ark, there is a lot of horizontal content in addition to powerful bosses and good gear. This includes collectible items, rewards and more that can provide really good bonuses for you. However, this can become very frustrating. Players are now demanding a stopgap for this very frustration.
What is the problem for the players? Those who really want to collect everything in Lost Ark will be busy for hundreds or even thousands of hours. Besides the bosses and the race for the highest gear score, there is still a lot to do.
Every fan of Lost Ark has certainly collected the small Mokoko seeds at some point, but there are also some items that are harder to obtain than just searching for them. Many of the so-called Island Souls, for example, and also three of the important Omnium Stars and even items that you need to fill your adventure compendium.
They all have a very specific component that makes them rare: randomness. Some of the mentioned collectible items can only be earned randomly from certain activities, with sometimes ridiculously low chances.
Why are these items important? In Lost Ark, you do not just collect for fun. Behind all collectible items are valuable rewards and sometimes even skill points that make your character simply stronger.
It is therefore annoying when such meaningful upgrades for your heroes are missing. And this is exactly where many fans see a huge potential for frustration.
For the latest raid boss, you should also have many skill points:
The same system that exists for equipment would help
What system do fans demand? If you want to upgrade gear in Lost Ark, there is a certain chance that it works, or not. Here, too, randomness plays a big role.
To prevent you from too much frustration, the developers have built in a block. If you fail the same item often enough in a row, the next attempt is guaranteed to be a success.
Many wish for a similar system for horizontal content and collectibles in the game. In addition to an increased drop chance for some of them, this would already improve many sad in-game events (via reddit).
Is the grind really that bad? If you have little luck, you can really be completely stranded at certain points in these side quests. In the forum and on reddit, people report of having killed the boss Moake for months to get his Omnium Star.
Island Souls from some islands also pose a problem. Above all, the Isle of Yearning, which has a double randomness mechanic behind it.
Here you must beat two minibosses on the island. With a very low chance, they then drop a loot bag, in which with an even lower chance the island soul can be found. Here, some players speak of 400 to 600 hours of pure grind. One fan on reddit even reports of 1,500 hours of gameplay just on the Isle of Yearning (via reddit).
“At least you can just do something else”
Are there opposing voices? Few. There are only a few people trying to paint the situation a little more beautifully, as some things do not have to be done for the last rewards at all. Let’s stick with the example of the Island Souls.
To receive the last really important reward of the souls, you currently need 85 of the Island Souls, while there are currently 93 in the game. This means that you can at least temporarily ignore the most annoying 8 if you are not someone who wants to have absolutely everything at 100%. But that is only a small consolation.
What do the fans say? Basically, everyone agrees that such a system, like that for gear, would make sense for all content in Lost Ark. Especially since you can only perform some things in the MMORPG once a day or even once a week, it becomes quickly frustrating when you struggle for a long time with low drop chances.
In addition, there are always large reddit threads. A few of the comments we would like to share with you here:
- sodanktok writes (via reddit): “It’s unbelievable how low the drop chances are for some things in the game and they still haven’t implemented a frustration block. I still don’t have the Omnium Star from Moake. Every time I see something that others need 50 days or more for, I add it to my ‘I will never do this’ list. I can’t think of any other MMORPG where it would be similar.”
- sdric says (via reddit): “Even if you don’t want to do everything completely, it’s all frustrating. Not having the legendary Wealth Rune restricts you enormously in some classes. Missing out on skill points also hurts in late game.”
- iusuzysana writes (via reddit): “I really don’t understand why people waste their soul on the island. I feel like the best guide for this island is to just never go there.”
What do you think of the randomness principle behind some drops in Lost Ark? Do you think such a frustration block would be useful, or do you believe that randomness is just randomness and people shouldn’t make such a fuss? Feel free to write it in the comments here on MeinMMO.
