In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), fans voted on what the best play of the 2010s in esports was. It is an “ace” from the DreamHack Open London in 2015 with the Desert Eagle. The play became legendary due to the special circumstances, the gameplay performance, and the casting.
What a choice? The official Twitter account of CS:GO with 735,000 followers let fans vote on what the “Play of the Decade” in CS:GO is.
Valve only asked fans for their favorites, then created 2 semifinal votes, and ultimately the final voting. Almost 80,000 people participated.
This is the Play of the Decade: Won by the Frenchman Vincent “Happy” Cervoni Schopenhauer (28) with a “deagle” ace from 2015.
The clip lasts 38 seconds. In the clip, you can see that Happy takes out all 5 opponents from Team SoloMid with a Desert Eagle in no time: 4 of them with headshots – some through the smoke.
A CS:GO play where everything just clicked
Why is the clip so fantastic? In a 2017 YouTube video by theScore eSports, the clip is analyzed and why it was such an iconic moment in CS:GO esports:
- In CS:GO, there are “Force Buy” rounds: These are rounds where a team has little money for equipment and is therefore poorly equipped and actually at a disadvantage. In the clip, the team members of Envyus, Happy’s team, have almost only pistols and smoke grenades – making them actually inferior.
- The clip also featured in an important tournament match on the map Inferno. While Envyus was leading 8-7, TSM was actually on the upswing. But TSM’s comeback was abruptly ended by the action.
- Happy played incredibly “cleanly” and “divinely” in the situation.
- Additionally, the casting by Auguste “Semmler” Massonnat was highlighted. He contributed with his voice to making the moment a bit special.
5 years later, it is official: Happy’s deagle ace is the best play in CS:GO of the last decade.
A play by CS:GO star Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostylev was also among the final 8, s1mple is considered one of the best CS:GO players in the world, but has had ongoing issues with Twitch.
