One day after the “Season 2” update of Call of Duty: Vanguard, the reactions are mostly negative. The mood among fans is partly tense and aggressive, partly players appear dejected and disillusioned. MeinMMO summarizes the reactions.
Thanks to Vanguard, Call of Duty is in the worst state in years. In order to counter this negative trend, Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games have postponed the joint Season 2 for Vanguard and Warzone by weeks.
They wanted to use the time to fix the shooter.
However, even after the delay and a massive amount of new content, Season 2 cannot convince the Vanguard players. The WW2 shooter still suffers from old problems that have not been improved.
“The Season 2 launch has made the game even more broken …”
What are the general reactions? Despite the update’s postponement, the biggest problems of CoD Vanguard continue to persist. But with the patch, new problems also came – some are annoying superficialities like broken skins, while others cause connection issues.
Accordingly, the reactions in the community, which “are losing patience” (via reddit):
- The FilmMakerGuy writes on reddit: “Does anyone else have the impression that they just stopped caring after New Year’s?”
- ChiefAnarchy says on reddit: “This has become an insult. The game is a damn mess.”
These problems still exist in the game: Major latency issues and a broken aim assist are reportedly still present in the game (via reddit). Starting games in a group is also still problematic.
Furthermore, the shield meta annoys players due to the lack of weapon balance in the new patch. Additionally, spawns are said to be worse than before. Enemies are starting rounds in the middle of enemy teams (via reddit)
These problems added up: Due to the patch delay, players have only 44 days instead of the usual 56 days to play until Battle Pass Level 100. In Warzone, although 71 days are available for the Battle Pass, the fact that 2 different dates are displayed does not speak well for the update.
Players also report that they cannot progress beyond the main menu (via reddit). Additionally, the Level 100 skin is depicted incorrectly in multiple ways (via reddit).
How are the new contents received? There are still very few opinions about the new Bomber Killstreak, which may be due to the fact that only the best players can use it. The new maps, on the other hand, are being discussed controversially. Casablanca divides the community, while Gondola is being shredded:
- @iOrdyh writes on Twitter: “I know it’s only the first day, but Casablanca is a top-8 map and Gondola is one of the worst 3 maps in Vanguard.”
- @EDoggM tweetst: “Casablanca and Gondola are terrible maps!”
However, the reactions to the new zombie contents, which made up a lion’s share of the Season 2 content, are noticeably negative.
New zombie contents do not convince: “I can’t stand it”
What are the new zombie contents like? Season 2 did bring a lot of new content for zombie fans, but it could not convince the players. The new content is said to be just as bad as the unpopular zombies map ‘The Beginning’, only bigger and a little prettier.
In a new video by YouTuber PrestigeIsKey, one can already see from the video structure how dissatisfied he is with the zombie content. The video titled “Terra Maledicta SUCKS – Zombies need a revival…” lasts 10:50 minutes.
Already after the first 45 seconds, he has formulated all positive thoughts – and spends the rest of the video on the negative. For example, he says: “I hate it so much. I can’t stand it.”
The players agree with this opinion:
- Pez 7k writes in a comment on the video: “You can’t fix this, Treyarch should just admit they messed it up and leave Vanguard Zombies alone.”
- @The_Rmxzh tries to capture the mood in a made-up dialogue:
CoD Zombies players: “We hate The Beginning.”
Sledgehammer Games: “All right, hang in there until the next update, guys.”
Also Sledgehammer Games: “We literally reset The Beginning and made you wait a whole season for it, lmao.”
Even if Season 2 can score much better with fans in Warzone – Call of Duty is currently in a difficult situation.
This is not only shown by the reactions to the update in CoD Vanguard. The fact that Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 were announced as early as they were for any Call of Duty before also shows the precarious situation of the shooter giant. Activision recognizes this, openly admitting that they have “screwed up” at the moment:
Developers of CoD Warzone admit: “We screwed up” – That’s why Part 2 is urgently needed
