Next week the announcement of Borderlands 3 is expected. This is considered quite certain. In advance, fans are discussing two things that they apparently reject: whether their game might land exclusively in the Epic Games Store and whether Gearbox is changing too much at its core.
This is the situation: For at least two years, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has been teasing Borderlands 3 and playing with the feelings of players who are longing for a new installment of the shooter series.
On March 28, it is supposed to happen – then Borderlands 3 will likely be officially announced at a Pax East event.
In advance, there are two topics in the community. We want to highlight both.

What’s going on with Epic? In recent weeks, Epic Games has been on a shopping spree for their store.
Epic Games has secured several exclusive games for PC that did not come to Steam: including Metro Exodus and The Division 2.
Fans are especially worried that the publisher behind Borderlands 3, Take-Two, has given the title “The Outer Worlds” to Epic Games, allegedly without the developers knowing.
Here, there are concerns that Borderlands 3 could face the same fate. And they could be the next ones affected.

What do fans have against Epic? Generally, fans would prefer to choose which platform they want to play Borderlands 3 on.
The thought of being “forced” into the Epic Store if they want to play it on PC does not please many.
IGN: Borderlands 3 needs a Battle Royale mode
What’s the issue with too much change? The US site IGN published an article about how fans wish for Borderlands 3, which was filled with elements of pseudo-MMOs and general change proposals:
- There should be weapon smithing to create your own super weapons
- Players should be able to create their own characters instead of just playing pre-made ones
- Borderlands 3 needs a Battle Royale mode
- In addition, several planets for more variety
- Moreover, more golden keys and crossplay

What irritates the fans: These suggestions are relatively unanimously rejected on reddit. Some are quite outraged: A character creator or crafting does not fit with Borderlands.
However, one could warm up to “Borderlands variants” – fine-tuning the weapon, for example, with special scopes or character customization within the framework of pre-made figures.
Many apparently want as little change as possible to the core of the franchise, especially not to the elements they love from previous games. Very few are excited about Battle Royale. This is seen as a trend and hype rejection – Gearbox would at most mock this by announcing a 100-player Battle Royale and then saying before the start: “96 have died before.”
It also seems that Borderlands 3 is shaping up to be a shooter for up to 4 players, as that many classes have also leaked ahead of time.
