With the DLC “Downpour“, the survival platformer “Rain World” on Steam receives a substantial expansion with numerous new content. A large part of the DLC is a true labor of love, into which loyal slugcat fans have invested 5 years of work.
What game is it about? In Rain World, players take on the role of a small, cute creature, a slugcat, and must fight for survival in a merciless world.
It comes from the indie developer studio Videocult and is very popular on Steam. 92% of the total 7,751 user ratings are positive (as of January 20, 2023, via Steam).

What kind of expansion is this? The fan expansion is part of the overall DLC Rain World: Downpour, called “More Slugcats Expansion“, which includes a comprehensive package of new game content:
- 5 new slugcats
- 10 new regions
- new creatures
- new items
- new soundtrack
- new cutscenes, dialogues, endings
- Challenge and Safari mode
- Rain World remix QoL features

What does the developer say? The announcements on the Steam page for Rain World: Downpour thank the developer studio in the so-called “Community Credits” all participants for their contributions to the project.
About the “More Slugcats Team”, the developers write: “A large team of passionate Rain World fans has worked on this with great love“. A total of 33 involved fans, who worked on the expansion for 5 years, are listed.
However, several fans also worked on the general “Downpour Team” with the DLC, which now combines the hobby creations into a large package and makes it available to the public. According to the developers, the significant participation of fans makes the expansion possible at all, which makes the project a tribute to the community.
How much does the expansion cost? On Steam, you currently get the expansion at a special price. Instead of €14.79, you receive the DLC with a 10% discount and pay €13.31. The introductory offer ends on February 2, 2023.
