Disney has released a first look at Moana 2, the sequel to a popular animated film. However, one aspect is already causing disappointment and concern among fans.
On February 7, 2024, the first trailer for Moana 2 was released. Yet, while users on reddit hope that the Disney sequel will be good, some are already expressing concerns about one thing and fear that the film might not live up to its predecessor.

How does the community react to the trailer? Fans on reddit are hoping for a good successor, especially since many liked the first part very much. For instance, user cberkel3618 wrote:
“On one hand, I really like the first part, and I think further exploration of Polynesian mythology has potential. On the other hand, Disney’s track record with sequels is rather mixed. Hopefully, this film will be fun.”
However, one aspect is already being highlighted negatively: Lin-Manuel Miranda, known by many from the musical Hamilton, will not be involved in the second part of Moana.
While he was responsible for songs like How Far I’ll Go and You’re Welcome in the first film, the 44-year-old will not be writing any music for the sequel.
In his place, a team consisting of Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina will compose the songs.
This has led to several reddit users fearing that the sequel will not be as good as the predecessor. Here we have gathered some comments about it:

- setyourheartsablaze: “A great loss. I don’t know who made Frozen, but IMO Miranda is a big reason why Encanto and Moana were a huge success. […] I really hope Disney wasn’t so foolish as to not hire him back and that he was the one who refused to come back. The songs for Wish were miserable and at best forgettable.”
- Iagut070: “The absence of LMM for the music will result in a noticeable decline in musical quality. I won’t hold back on that.”

When is Moana 2 being released? You can see Moana 2 on the big screen later this year. The Disney film will come to German cinemas on November 28, 2024.
But not only a second part is planned. A live-action adaptation of the first film, in which you will again see Dwayne Johnson as Maui, is currently in the works.
