The manga artist Junji Ito has become known for his thrilling horror mangas. One of his most famous works is the Uzumaki series, which has nothing to do with Naruto. The series is now getting a new anime, for which there are now more concrete release details.
What is the Uzumaki series? Uzumaki is a three-part manga series that was published from 1998 to 1999. The Japanese word translates to “spiral,” which is reflected in the plot of the manga:
- In the small town of Kurouzu, supernatural phenomena suddenly occur. The spirals, after which the series is named, are involved.
- The residents of the small town suddenly lose their minds. For example, one man becomes possessed by spirals. He feels he must find them in his food and bath water.
- There are even fatal incidents and natural disasters that are related to the spirals
The Uzumaki series has even produced a live-action film in Japan and appears in two video games. In 2019, the announcement was made for the anime series, which will consist of four episodes.

News on Uzumaki with a release window
When is the anime supposed to be released? In an interview with The Japan Times, Junji Ito revealed that the release of the anime had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, he assures that the series is set to be released in 2024.
Currently, one of the four episodes is finished. Alone, the first episode is said to meet the expectations of the horror manga artist. Therefore, we can assume that the anime adaptation will be just as scary as its manga source material.
Thus, fans of the horror manga artist can look forward to the Uzumaki anime after five years of waiting since the announcement. From the first trailer, we already know that the production team at Adult Swim will stick to Ito’s art style. This is evident, among other things, from the black-and-white imagery.

The production team is currently working not only on an anime of Uzumaki but also on the animated series Rick & Morty.
