With Update 23, the world of Middle-earth in the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online is getting bigger – and more dangerous. Because now you will face dragons! Fans are looking forward to the juicy new update for the MMORPG classic.
As the MMORPG LotRO shows, the story after the destruction of the One Ring is not yet over. Your adventures will now take you to the northern regions with the new Update 23 “Where Dragons Dwell”.
The story leads to dragons
What is the story about? Together with Gandalf the Grey, you try to eliminate Sauron’s remaining officers after the War of the Ring. The trail of the Black Book of Mordor leads you north, past the Lonely Mountain Erebor and into the Misty Mountains, where the dwarves are engaged in a relentless conflict with the dragons.
There is much to explore: Your adventures will take you to many new areas where many challenges await you. These places include:
- The Iron Mountains – This location is east of the Lonely Mountain Erebor and provides a home for the dwarves, who aided Thorin Oakenshield in the Battle of the Five Armies.
- Erebor – The Lonely Mountain. You are now allowed to explore this area in detail and get to know the dwarven kingdom more closely.
- The Misty Mountains – North of Erebor lies the Misty Mountains. Dwarves inhabit this area as well, and they are engaged in battles with the dragons that have settled in the desolate heath. The dragon Smaug came from the desolate heath to the south to conquer Erebor.
A good update
This is how the new update is received by fans: Fans in the official forum are excited about the new content and areas. Currently, there are still some issues with bugs. The revamped older locations like Bree have sparked discussions. Some have simply gotten used to the old look, while others believe the adjustments are necessary. Overall, there is a good mood regarding the new update in the official LotRO forum.

- Revisions of Hobbit avatars with new hairstyles, head shapes, and more
