Unhappy fans file a lawsuit against Genshin Impact because the abilities of two specific characters do not work together. MeinMMO describes what exactly is going on and how it came to this.
Which characters and skills are involved? It concerns the skills of characters named Raiden Shogun and Beidou. Raiden Shogun was introduced in September as a new character in Genshin Impact, and her skill descriptions were not clear for many players.
Everyone assumed that Raiden Shogun and Beidou would complement each other well with their special abilities. Beta testers also leaked earlier that both special abilities would work together. However, after the release of Raiden Shogun, this was no longer the case.
The ability “Thunder Shield” states: “Creates a chain lightning when hitting with normal attacks and heavy strikes, bouncing between enemies (…)”. If you switch to another character after using this ability, the chain lightning remains and deals additional damage when you hit with attacks.
Also, the description of Raiden Shogun’s special ability speaks of: “In this state, Shogun Raiden attacks with a katana and deals electro damage with normal attacks, heavy strikes (…)”. Furthermore, the skill states that this damage is considered special ability damage.
Together with the original constellation description “Reduces (…), when normal attacks, heavy strikes (…) hit opponents. (…)” many assumed that the ability works with Beidou. The phrasing was the same as with Beidou’s ability.
This constellation description was adjusted after the release of Raiden Shogun to: “Reduces (…), when attacks with special ability damage from Shogun Raiden hit opponents. (…)” to clear up the confusion.
Angry and Disappointed Fans File a Lawsuit
Upset about this change and that the characters do not work together, at least two fans file a lawsuit against miHoYo, the creators of Genshin Impact. In a forum post, one of them states that he has filed a lawsuit against miHoYo and also shows a screenshot of an online court portal (via NGA.CN).
The second user also posts in the official Chinese miHoYo forum a complaint about the two characters along with a photo of his username next to a lawyer’s license (via bbs.mihoyo).
What does the Community Say? The community is also not pleased with the whole matter. Genshin Impact itself has also further explained Raiden Shogun’s ability in the official forum (via HoYoLAB). Among them are dissatisfied players:

Why is this a big problem? Money and Gacha. Many assumed based on the original description and the leaks that Beidou and Raiden Shogun would definitely complement each other well. Only for this reason would they have pulled on Raiden Shogun’s banner.

Primogems are the in-game currency for pulling on banners, which you also receive for free through events and quests in the game.
