Monster Hunter is being adapted into a movie, and filming starts this year. However, fans fear that a Monster Hunter film with the duo Paul W. S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich can only turn out poorly.
While the first two Resident Evil films directed by Paul W. S. Anderson passed as decent popcorn entertainment, the later installments are regarded by many as terrible. The last film from 2016, “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” has a rating of only 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb.
Milla Jovovich has won several awards for her role as Alice in Resident Evil. However, she is associated with the films and is receiving negative criticism here.
Fans are also worried about the small budget: The estimated budget for Monster Hunter is 60 million dollars, which is on the lower end for a blockbuster. They wish for a large-scale film for the action RPG that can do justice to the epic games.
For comparison: The estimated budget of the last Star Wars film, “The Last Jedi,” is estimated to be between 200 and 217 Million dollars.

Even in the Reddit for Monster Hunter, there was little enthusiasm for the adaptation if it is to be directed by Paul W. S. Anderson.

Positive voices are few and far between
There are also a few voices that want to at least give the film a chance. However, there have only been a few of those. Almost no one is expecting something big. Our user Zord said:
“Surely the film won’t win an Oscar for its plot and won’t be shown on Arte, but I do trust Anderson and Capcom to make a fun action film for Monster Hunter. If the MH movie entertains as well as the Resident Evil films did, then that’s enough for me to watch it on a Sunday night on Amazon.”
Anderson plans a typical Hollywood plot: From average Joe to hero
Paul W.S. Anderson has been planning to bring Monster Hunter to the big screen for years. He already revealed in 2016 in an interview with Deadline how he envisions the Monster Hunter film.
An ordinary man with a typical 9-to-5 job discovers that he is actually descended from an ancient hero. Now he must travel to a mystical world and train there to become the ultimate monster hunter. Otherwise, the beasts of this mystical world will destroy the Earth and humanity.
Since Monster Hunter has no main characters, these will be created for the film. According to Anderson, the characters are supposed to represent typical Americans. He draws a comparison to Neo from The Matrix. A man without a future who suddenly gets pulled into an extraordinary and dangerous world where he has to prove himself.
Monsters from myths are actually real and must be fought: The beasts live underground and are said to be long-forgotten myths from human history. For every monster, there was a hero who fought it. All of a sudden, the monsters disappeared into nothingness, and no heroes were needed anymore. So they became legends.
