Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has promised regular updates of the Blackout map at launch. However, there hasn’t been much new on the battle royale map so far. According to the lead developer, that should change soon.
This is the situation in Blackout: At launch, developer Treyarch boldly promised that the large map in the battle royale mode Blackout would change more often. However, the only major change so far has been the newly added yacht “Hijacked”, which came with the Absolute Zero update in December 2018. That was also the 2nd season of Blackout.
Since then, nothing new has come, and fans are getting impatient. After all, the big competitor Fortnite seems to release new content every week, and PUBG also has several maps to choose from.
Lead Developer Addresses Map Changes
This is what Treyarch says about the map issue: A fan complained via Twitter, asking “Can we just get new areas on the map, damn it, please!” Despite the rough tone, there was a quick response from the lead developer David Vonderhaar himself. He simply said, “We are working on it, Season 3 is coming soon.”
It seems that there will finally be a new map change and addition in Blackout in the upcoming Season 3.
What changes could come? The Blackout map consists of several familiar multiplayer maps from past Call of Duty titles. For example, Hijacked is from Black Ops 2. While fans are generally excited about any change, maps like “Burial” and “Cove” from Black Ops 2 are particularly popular.
When is Season 3 coming? Season 2 will be ending in a few weeks. This means that Season 3 will likely begin soon and the new map change will take effect shortly after. So you won’t have to wait long for the new map in Blackout.
David Vonderhaar is currently quite active on Twitter. He also shared information regarding changes to a controversial game mode in Blackout.
