During the World Cup in Fortnite the duo world championship took place on Saturday. One team was so unpopular that the audience even cheered when they were eliminated. The two have been branded as cheaters in Fortnite, yet they managed to qualify for the world championship.
This duo is despised: The two Canadian players XXiF and Ronaldo were probably the most-hated participants at the Fortnite World Cup in Duo.
When player XXiF was eliminated, a clear cheer was heard from the audience.
On reddit it is said that the cheer during XXiF’s elimination was the loudest response from the audience throughout the World Cup. His elimination was celebrated louder than if players had won.
Duo banned for cheating – still qualified
What did the two do that was so bad? In May, XXiF and Ronaldo were banned from Fortnite eSports for 14 days and were released from their eSports team.
They were accused of being “fed” kills in Fortnite – that players were killed by them intentionally, on agreement, so that the cheating team could receive points and qualify for the world championship.
It was a scandal at the time when the two served their ban, then played Fortnite again and managed to qualify for the World Cup in June. Competitors immediately demanded reviews. Others even urged Epic to exclude XXiF and Ronaldo from the World Cup.
They simply didn’t trust them and found it ridiculous to allow them to compete in the World Cup. Critics demanded at least a ban for the competition in which they cheated.
How did it go for the two? Overall, the two Canadians couldn’t achieve much at the Duo World Cup. In the end, they placed 28th out of 50.
They still receive the $50,000 entrance money – each one gets $50,000.
How do they respond to the boos: Ronaldo wrote to his fans that he knows many people are against them – but he has supporters out there.
He says he is grateful for everyone on his side and that things will only get better from here on.
As Kotaku reports, most Fortnite fans believe the negative sentiment towards the two is deserved. Streamers with significant reach like DrLupo condemned the behavior of the two.
But other Fortnite fans think the hate against the two Canadians should be enough. At some point, it has to stop.
