The beta of Diablo 4 was well received, although there was some criticism. One element, however, caused absolute chaos: the Butcher. The ancient boss randomly appeared in dungeons and has slaughtered players. Fans are now demanding more of it.
What kind of boss is that? The Butcher first appeared in Diablo 1 and surprised players there in a dungeon. Those who opened the door to his slaughterhouse were ambushed by one of the most dangerous bosses in the entire series.
The Butcher, known in the original as “Butcher,” is famous for his brutality and for his surprisingly swift movements for his size. He can pull players towards him, trample them, or simply eliminate them with his cleaver.
In Diablo 4, the Butcher simply appears in dungeons where he doesn’t actually belong. He can show up as a random event, of which you know nothing before entering the dungeon – and disappear just as quickly.
On Reddit, fans are now praising the Butcher as a “huge success,” even though the demon has murdered dozens of players. Why is everyone so fascinated by the Butcher?
Before the beta, players feared that Diablo 4 would not be dark enough. The Butcher seems to have already disproven that. The conclusion of the MeinMMO editors can be found here:
The Butcher “generates a genuine fear”
This is what fans say: User KurtiZ_TSW explains that the Butcher is an unpredictable element. He is a surprise and a threat, something that fits perfectly into the dark world of Diablo. You feel fear and excitement when the demon suddenly stands before you.
Dungeons were criticized after the beta for being too similar and repetitive. They are even one of the points that are often controversially discussed. The Butcher exactly undermines this element. Bosses should be a surprise, they say, not waiting behind closed doors.
Another thread on Reddit receives a lot of support and hundreds of comments. Here, players praise that the situation felt like in a horror movie: “That traumatized me. I had to sleep with the lights on Saturday.”
The only criticism that existed before is that hardcore characters can be killed without warning when the Butcher appears in endgame dungeons. Whether that will happen, we do not know yet.
Will there be more of it? The developers have already noted in interviews how much they love the Butcher themselves and that similar events should also be possible later in the game. However, specific information is still missing.
MeinMMO editor Maik Schneider also had the opportunity to speak with the developers. The interview focused mainly on the biggest controversy surrounding Diablo 4:
Diablo 4: Can you turn off the “shared world” at some point? We asked the developers
