Dying Light 2 has been well received by fans so far. However, some changes are rather unpopular – including one from the latest update on March 9, 2022. One of the strongest items was nerfed. The nerf was received so poorly that the developers now want to at least partially revert it.
What kind of nerf is this? With the major update 1.2.0 from March 9, numerous serious bugs were fixed. However, beside the changes noted in the patch notes, some secret adjustments also found their way into the game.
One of these concerns the Korek Charm. The charm is a weapon modification that increases the durability of the corresponding weapon. Before the adjustment, the charm restored 500 durability to the item.
Now it is only 300. Additionally, attaching it now costs 666 scraps. That is quite a lot, as players could carry a maximum of 999 scraps before the patch. Although the limit has now been raised to 9,999, the costs are still high.
What is so special about the item? Modifications are the only way to repair weapons in Dying Light 2. However, most mods only provide a few durability points and can only be applied once.
Weapons have a limited number of slots, so they can only be repaired with mods a limited number of times. The Korek Charm is significantly more efficient and can be applied to weapons an unlimited number of times. This makes it very popular among players to protect their favorite weapons.
Fans outraged – Not even the lead knew about the nerf
How the players are reacting: On the Dying Light subreddit, the nerf is currently one of the biggest topics. Fans understand that some adjustments are probably inevitable, but the costs are exorbitant.
Parts are continuously scarce, even though they can be found easily. Some are surprised how other players could even scrape together more than 900 parts. From imakelv it is said, “No wonder my parts are suddenly decreasing. Come on, we’ve been so supportive all the time, devs. Don’t do this to us now.”
Together with the Korek Charm, the nerfs to the also extremely useful grappling hook and changes to the chests in the sunken city are being discussed. The grappling hook, for example, now has a small cooldown and the chests can no longer be looted endlessly.
What the developers are saying: On Discord, the developers are responding to player criticism. There, community manager Uncy says:
We hear you. You love the Korek Charm and want to keep using it. So we will be making some adjustments to the charm in the upcoming patches to make it more useful for players.
Interestingly, lead designer Tymon Smektala claims to have known nothing about the change. On Twitter, he says that the change was implemented without his knowledge.
He is now doing everything he can to have the nerf of the Korek Charm reverted or at least to make the item useful again. However, he also points out that the charm is not the “intended” way to repair, but rather an Easter egg.
