Fortnite (PC, PS4, iOS & Xbox One) is receiving the limited-time game mode “Infinity Gauntlet” on May 8th. In this mashup of Marvel and Fortnite, Thanos will appear. Fans hope that Avengers skins will also be released, but Epic is nipping this hope in the bud.
What is it about? Fans of Marvel and Fortnite were equally excited when Epic Games announced a mashup of Epic’s shooter and Avengers: Infinity War on Twitter. In the new, limited-time game mode “Infinity Gauntlet” you can find the namesake gauntlet of Thanos with the 6 Infinity Stones on the map.
Then you will become Thanos, which probably means death and destruction for all other players.
No Black Panther, Captain America, or Iron Man
Thanos is definitely in the game, at least during the Infinity Gauntlet game mode. But what about the other Avengers and superheroes who battle against Thanos in the film? It would be perfect if you could play as Black Panther, Captain America, Thor, or Iron Man.
No Marvel characters: Unfortunately, that won’t happen. In a Reddit post, an Epic employee responded to the rising requests from fans for Marvel skins. “We have no plans for Avengers outfits in the shop.” Thanos will likely only appear in the new game mode and not as a regular shop item.
Maybe there is still hope…
Why not? That would be great! Apparently, the cooperation between Marvel and Epic does not extend so far as to make the most famous heroes in the world available as skins.
Thor with a gun? According to the responsible parties, everything should feel “right”. Heroes like Thor or Iron Man, who are shooting with guns and have no other powers, do not quite fit the legendary image of these heroes.
The mashup with Thanos supposedly came about due to the personal preferences of the directors of Infinity War. They are big fans of the game and suddenly offered the Epic CEO the idea for the Infinity Gauntlet mashup one day.
But who knows, maybe there is still hope for Avengers skins if the Thanos game mode goes through the roof and Epic pays enough money to Disney…
As a small consolation, there’s the Rust Lord. He looks like Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy and is even a slang term among schoolyard kids!
