The Hanzo rework from Overwatch is long overdue. But Jeff Kaplan has good news – it’s nearing completion.
In the official forums and on Reddit about Overwatch, things have become uncomfortable in recent days. More and more players are complaining that the promised changes to Hanzo are still not playable. Instead, there were even new balance changes to Mei, Doomfist, and Sombra. As for Hanzo, nothing was heard except for failed ideas that the developers do not want to pursue further.
According to Jeff Kaplan, the reason for this is quite simple. In the official forum, he explained that it would be much easier to implement changes to Doomfist, Sombra, and Mei, as these adjustments did not require new animations. It was purely a numerical adjustment, so no designers had to be assigned.
Hanzo rework consumes more resources
In contrast, Hanzo is a rework where all abilities are exchanged or fundamentally revised – especially the notorious Scatter Shot is set to be overhauled. A new ability therefore requires new animations and more work than just tinkering with numbers.
The developers wanted to be sure that they were on the right track with the rework idea before assigning important resources, such as art designers, to these tasks. This step has now been taken.
This indicates that we can expect to see the rework for Hanzo on the PTR soon, and his scatter arrow will be addressed. Those who still want to enjoy the one-shots that can take down even tanks like Orisa or Reinhardt with a single shot should use this time. Because Hanzo’s days are numbered.
