Many dream of owning their own MMORPG. For one player, that dream is now coming true. He wants to bring a 10-year-old MMORPG back to life.
The MMORPG “Crowns of Power” was released in 2008 by developer Rampid Interactive. However, the MMORPG had only a short lifespan. By 2011, it was all over. The game was discontinued.
To honor his brother who died of cancer, this fan purchased the rights to the MMORPG
Normally, this would be the end of the story. But “Crowns of Power” is set to rise from the ashes.
Former player Steve McClain has set this as his goal. McClain played the game from day one until it ended. After six years in the army, he now wants to achieve his goal and fulfill the wish of his deceased brother. His brother had wished that his old favorite MMORPG “Crowns of Power” would be playable again.
Steve McClain then contacted the developer and purchased the rights for development and publication of “Crowns of Power”. He wants to “reactivate” the game. In honor of his brother, part of the possible revenues will go to cancer research.
McClain has connected with other members in the community and wants to “rekindle the flame”.
A different kind of crowdfunding
In the meantime, McClain has launched a Kickstarter campaign, but it was ended before it even started. Apparently, the founder plans to relaunch the campaign after making some changes.
McClain and his team plan to soon re-release “Crowns of Power”. Until then, a small, dedicated team will clean up and optimize the code of “Crowns of Power”.
A closed alpha has already started, and a closed beta should follow. Here, they plan to test the game and ensure that all major bugs are cleared. Once that’s behind them, information about an open beta and the launch will be provided. They want to introduce a lot of new equipment, spells, and quests.
