Due to a tweet, thousands believed that PietSmiet would be the German voice of Mario, but now the YouTuber puts an end to the discussions.
Who is it about? A post by Fabian Mario Döhla caused a stir on Twitter, which he published on December 11, 2022.
Fabian Döhla is a well-known PR and social media manager in the gaming industry, working for companies such as the Witcher developer CD Projekt Red and SEGA.
Why did some believe that PietSmiet was voicing Mario? In his tweet from December 11, Fabian Döhla congratulated Peter from PietSmiet for being the German voice of Mario in the upcoming “Super Mario” movie.
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 7, 2023, and contrary to Fabian Döhla’s claim, it will feature Leonhard Mahlich as the German voice of Mario.
Leonhard Mahlich is known for various roles. In addition to voicing actor Chris Pratt – who voices Mario in the English original – Mahlich also voices the German voice of the hero “Lúcio” in Blizzard’s shooter Overwatch.
What does PietSmiet say about it? In a video from December 14, PietSmiet addresses Fabian Döhla’s tweet and explains that the post “fooled” thousands.
In the video, Peter says that Fabian Döhla is a personal friend and that the tweet is of course just “absolute nonsense”.
He personally finds it pretty obvious that the post is a joke, especially since Döhla is “the most famous troll in the gaming industry”. As an example, PietSmiet shows a scene from the official award ceremony of the German video game award, where Fabian Döhla is wearing curlers and has placed a sex toy in his background.
Accordingly, PietSmiet’s reaction to his good friend’s joke was also as follows. He was sitting on the couch when he read the tweet and thought only “Hah, good joke”. Afterwards, Peter says, he went to sleep. But when he woke up the next day, he thought the world had gone crazy.

What discussions did the tweet trigger? Twitter was full of discussions and postings talking about “PietSmiet as the voice actor of Mario”.
According to PietSmiet, many congratulated him nicely, some recognized the joke directly, and others were suspicious and questioned how much truth there is in the post. Other content creators, including Jay from PietSmiet, recognized the joke and joined in:
However, many users believed the news and were not at all pleased. The demand for a “real voice actor” seems to be high, and there was much criticism as users see it as a marketing measure for the movie.

According to PietSmiet, there were even comments stating that they would not see the movie in theaters because of this. Good reason for Peter to conclude the video with the wisdom of not believing everything that is claimed on the internet. After all, Döhla did not name any real source.
