The new Update 13 has brought numerous improvements and innovations for Fallout 76. We take a look at what players are celebrating the most.
What kind of new map is this? With the Update 13 for Fallout 76 from September 10, the battle royale mode “Nuclear Winter” received a new map to play on. The new map is set around the city of Morgantown.
Morgantown focuses more on intense action at specific locations and unique environments rather than on survival and collecting, as Flatwoods did before. Good loot and fights focus on:
- a prison with tight areas
- a power plant with narrow passages
- Morgantown itself with its alleys and the university

For acclimatization, the mode is currently restricted to Morgantown. Flatwoods will be reintroduced to the rotation later.
Changes to Fallout 76 – What is being well received?
This is what players say about Morgantown: The first impressions of the new map are overwhelmingly positive. Players consistently report that they enjoy diving into a new round of Battle Royale.
A user on reddit writes that Morgantown is “fantastic. The new changes make Nuclear Winter better than ever.” Another player has fallen so in love with the map that he just wanted to admire it without fighting. He snuck around in his underwear, took pictures, and managed to reach second place without any combat.

The colleagues from Kotaku report that Morgantown feels significantly better than Flatwoods did before. Morgantown feels like a “more dynamic Nuclear Winter map,” “like a Fortnite map.”
These changes are also appreciated: Although Morgantown is the centerpiece of Update 13, players are also excited about new (and returning) events. Through a community event, players can bring back the popular Meat Week themselves.
However, the in-game events have also received an overhaul. After much feedback, they have been revised, and some events have now become public events with various conveniences. Here are several opinions on the change:
- It is nice that events happen more regularly and are easier to access.
- Especially “casual” players are more likely to participate in events more often.
- If a server is empty, it now feels a bit harder to complete an event.
- “Hardcore” players find it harder to farm loot now due to the precise timing.
Is it worth taking a look at Update 13?
You should check out Update 13 if
- you enjoy Battle Royale and want to try a new approach to Fallout 76.
- you want to help the community unlock events, features, and rewards.
- you see yourself as a “casual” player who enjoys gaming a bit from time to time.
