Bethesda simply cannot seem to escape criticism. Hardly had the Fallout 1st subscription for Fallout 76 with private worlds been introduced, when new problems arose. Now Bethesda has spoken out.
What problems have arisen? As soon as the Fallout 1st subscription was introduced, allowing players to open their own private worlds, there were reports of numerous issues.
The recycling box, in which subscribers can store unlimited crafting materials, suddenly became empty for some players after logging out and back in. Additionally, there are looted corpses in the private worlds, although only the selected teammates should actually have access to the world. Players wondered if these were “recycled worlds,” meaning worlds that previously existed.
Bethesda speaks out
How is Bethesda reacting? The developers have addressed these problems. Regarding the recycling box, it was initially said that it was a display issue for players who had an excessive amount of junk in the box. However, the developers have since backtracked on this. It seems some players are genuinely losing items. The team will look into this matter.
As for the private worlds, they aren’t really private, which Bethesda also admits. All people on your friends list can access your world and can enter it without being invited. This explains why suddenly looted corpses are lying around.
Additionally, it’s essentially not a truly “private world,” but rather a personal instance of the game world created for you. So if you’ve looted enemies in the public world and then switch to your private instance, the enemies there will also be looted – until the reset occurs.
What do the developers think about private worlds? Bethesda explains in a statement: “We understand that this is not what you expected from private worlds.” The team wants to look into this and consider further options for how you can truly make your worlds “private.” In the future, only those who have permission will be able to enter a private world.
A very tense atmosphere
How are players reacting? The mood in the Fallout 76 community is already quite tense. The introduction of the Fallout 1st subscription, its costs, and the fact that private worlds are essentially paid features did not evoke excitement, but rather a shitstorm.
Understandably, the situation did not improve when issues with the private worlds and recycling box emerged. Additionally, the community had hoped that Bethesda would issue a general statement regarding the overall situation. Players had hoped for a response to the shitstorm regarding the subscription, but this was not forthcoming. Instead, Bethesda only addressed the mentioned problems.
- Skitt1e on Reddit sarcastically stated: “I’m glad Bethesda is introducing recycling into the post-apocalypse.”
However, there are also voices defending Bethesda. PilksUK wrote on Reddit: “People seem to be confusing it, as private worlds are not private servers, but private instances.”
Spiffo0 also takes Bethesda’s side in the same thread, saying: “The enemies respawn, where is the problem? Has anyone complaining even played the game?”
What do you think of the situation? Is Bethesda rightly criticized?
