The game world of Fallout 76 is a post-apocalyptic version of the U.S. state of West Virginia. It hopes to gain a boost for its tourism sector through the attention generated by the online RPG. This has now even led to an official cooperation.
After the setting and the first trailer for Fallout 76 were made public, there were some enthusiastic reactions from the residents in West Virginia. This has not gone unnoticed by the local government and tourism businesses, as many soon expressed initial hopes for a tourism boost in West Virginia.
Now, Governor Jim Justice and the tourism office of West Virginia are teaming up with Bethesda to plan advertising campaigns together and boost tourism and attract players.

Cooperation between Bethesda and the tourism office of West Virginia
This is what they hope to achieve through a collaboration: Justice hopes that such advertising campaigns will bring more attention to the entire state. In his opinion, it is high time for that.
For years, I have been saying that we have everything: beautiful landscapes, the best people you could wish for. And now we can share part of that with the whole world through the unique perspective of this video game.
What will this cooperation look like? Currently, Bethesda and the tourism office are working on campaigns that will benefit both parties. While Bethesda hopes for advertising for Fallout 76, West Virginia wants to “enlighten” players about the state, its culture, and landscapes.
There are no concrete details on planned campaigns yet. T-shirts for Fallout 76 were recently sold at West Virginia’s Mothman Museum, but they are now all sold out. By the way, there will also be this museum in the game.
These places and myths will be found in Fallout 76
Besides the Mothman Museum, there are many other locations in Fallout 76 that can also be found in reality. Bethesda has taken great care in recreating West Virginia and its features.
In West Virginia, there are some legends about strange creatures
- such as a giant sloth,
- the Mothman,
- an alien-like monster
and other oddities that will play a role in Fallout 76.

In addition to stories, there are also real places that can be found in the game world.
These locations have so far been confirmed or discovered by fans
- Camden Park, a large amusement park
- Greenbrier Resort with Eisenhower’s nuclear bunker,
- Etam Earth satellite station
- Charleston, the capital of West Virginia,
- New River Gorge, a huge bridge over a national park,
- West Virginia University or rather VaultTech University,
- Moundsville Penitentiary, a huge prison,
What other places will be there will be revealed at the latest in the beta. Otherwise, you can take a look at the complete map of Fallout 76 here.
