Fallout 76 should receive a new boss event with the start of Season 1. “A Colossal Problem” was presented during QuakeCon 2020 and will be released in the coming weeks. With enough power and 7 other players, you can face the three-headed Wendigo and its minions.
This is the situation regarding new content in Fallout 76: On June 30, Season 1 of Fallout 76 Wastelanders started, bringing new content. One of them was the Fallout-specific battle pass, the legendary race, where you can unlock some items through daily tasks. However, this takes an extreme amount of time and reaching Level 100 was hardly possible before Bethesda’s adjustments.
Legendary perk cards and a boss event were also supposed to come to the game on June 30, but were postponed.
With Update 21 on August 4, the boss event “A Colossal Problem” was now supposed to be delivered, presenting players with a formidable challenge. However, Bethesda wants to continue testing and optimizing the event and will only release it in a few weeks. During QuakeCon, which took place this year as a live event on Twitch, the full boss fight was already showcased.
This is the new boss: Even regular Wendigos are dangerous foes in Fallout 76. However, if you have the right level, the appropriate skills, and the necessary equipment, they are no longer a threat individually or in small groups. And this is where the new boss event comes into play.
Ideally, with 7 other well-equipped and high-level players, you need to launch a nuclear missile in Fallout 76. Your goal is the Monongah Mine. In the irradiated mine, you will inevitably encounter the three-headed Wendigo Colossus and its countless Wendigo spawns. You have only 25 minutes to defeat the boss.
Here’s how the fight goes: The battle against the Wendigo Colossus can quickly become hectic. The huge Wendigo attacks with strong melee strikes and kicks and continuously spawns more Wendigos. Its spit is also corrosive, and you should avoid it as much as possible.
You should eliminate the regular Wendigos. Ideally, assign 1 to 2 players to do this; otherwise, they will overwhelm you very early on. At regular intervals, the Colossus will instill fear in you with its scream. Your character will then run around aimlessly for a few seconds, potentially colliding with dangerous objects. Highly irradiated atomic waste and giant drill heads can quickly mean death.
Due to the original atomic strike on the mine, it has also become unstable, and debris continuously falls from the ceiling. If you are hit by the debris, you will take significant damage, which can quickly take you out of the game.
However, the respawn point is not far away and is fairly placed. Death still poses problems. The durability loss of your equipment means that after several failed attempts, you cause barely any damage and die quickly. The respawns also take longer with each death. Thus, the 25-minute timer drives the sweat from your brow.
The YouTuber WidgeonTV has summarized the fight and the quest in a video:
When the event will finally be unlocked by Bethesda on the live servers of Fallout 76 is still uncertain. According to their own statement, it should only take a few weeks.
