Fallout 76 is actually known for its incredibly nice community. However, there are a few black sheep. A player was allegedly murdered from behind and robbed, even though there is really no proper PvP in the game. Dozens of heroes quickly arrive and want to help.
Wait a minute, does Fallout 76 have PvP?
- Yes, in theory, it does. If you attack a player and they return fire, you are in a fight and can kill each other.
- However, almost all players usually have the pacifist mode activated. This prevents any damage you cause to other players and any damage that other players can cause to you and your camp.
- The only exception is workshops, where open PvP is generally the rule. But those are simply contested areas with appropriate warnings.
This has happened to a player: Despite the pacifist mode, there is a possibility to kill other players – with traps. There are a few trolls who set up dedicated “trap camps” to lure other players to their deaths.
A notorious player, who goes by the name Vault101manguy, even has a corresponding reputation in the community. The king of trolls has created camps where he tortures you with math lessons. Generally, he just wants to have a bit of fun and doesn’t seriously want to harm anyone.
Other players are meaner. On Reddit, a user shared that he was lured into a trap and robbed. However, the post has since been deleted, so we can’t say exactly how much truth there is to this story.
However, there are indeed cases where griefers attack other players whenever possible. This is annoying, but it’s really not that bad, because the wasteland sticks together.
Community gives tips – and offers tons of items
In the corresponding thread, hundreds of comments appeared just hours after its creation. Most of them offer to replace everything the player has lost – on every possible platform. Some offers even go beyond that:
OP, if you’re playing on Xbox, add me. You can literally have as much free gear as you want, no matter how many times you ask.
Similar offers are abundant from other players. The community is more than willing to give – only begging shouldn’t be done actively, as stated in the unofficial “code of conduct.”
A few less altruistic players give the user tips on how to avoid such encounters in the future. After all, there are trolls every now and then, but their traps can easily be bypassed or the “punishment” mitigated:
- Scrap and other items should be regularly brought back to your own camp and stored, as it is safe there.
- If you stumble into someone else’s camp and aren’t sure if it could be a trap, you should equip the perk “Lightfooted” and sneak. This way, standard traps won’t be triggered.
- If you still fall into a trap, you can get your revenge by bombing the camp with a nuclear strike – Yes, that really works in Fallout 76.
- If that doesn’t help, you should always have fertilizer and a spoon in your inventory. That way, you’re at least telling the griefer what he should eat.
Luckily, stories with griefers and involuntary PvP are extremely rare in Fallout 76. The game is very beginner-friendly and the community – as shown here – very accommodating. Anyone who wants to step into this world is well served with the survival MMO: Forget Fallout 4, you should start with Fallout 76 now.
