The new battle royale mode “Nuclear Winter” in Fallout 76 offers players many special features. Among them are the perks known from the game. However, a specific combination of perks is causing quite a bit of annoyance.
What is this combination? A mix of three perks is currently spreading as a “meta” in the new battle royale mode “Nuclear Winter”:
- “Frog Legs” – Increases jump height by 300%, similar to the mutation “Marsupial”
- “Demolition Expert” – Explosive weapons deal 80% more damage
- “Grenadier” – Grenades have double the explosion radius
On reddit, players report that they are encountering more and more opponents using these perks and that they often succumb to them.
What perks do in Nuclear Winter
What does this combination do? The combination of these perks allows players to easily climb tall buildings, jump across rooftops, and deal damage to opponents from above during battles.
With the jump height and the enhanced explosive weapons with increased blast radius on grenades, grenade launchers become killing machines. Players with these perks and this weapon are nearly unstoppable.
Some frustrated players report that it is nearly impossible to hit the hopping frogs, especially while being bombarded with grenades themselves.
What is the problem with these perks? In itself, it wouldn’t be a problem that this combination is so strong. However, not every player always has access to the corresponding perks:
- Perks are found in packs when leveling up
- Packs are available at every level up to level 13, then less frequently. From level 20, only every four levels
- Perks can be duplicated. It is possible not to receive the perks even up to level 100
- Other players can receive the perks directly with their first level-ups, but need 9 agility for “Frog Legs”
This leads to some players being able to dominate others without them having the opportunity to defend themselves.
This is what the community says about it: There are increasingly threads on reddit where players complain. Since Nuclear Winter is currently in the permanently playable pre-beta phase, some fans have already suggested changes such as increased action point consumption or limited charges.
A Community Manager from Bethesda has also responded and said that the criticism has been forwarded to the developers. When Nuclear Winter will be fully released is still uncertain.
