Todd Howard from Bethesda revealed more details about the upcoming online game Fallout 76, particularly how many players will interact on each map.
Fallout 76 will not be an MMO. Bethesda has made that clear. But how many players are there on a server of Fallout 76? Todd Howard has now explained this.
Maximum 32 players per server
Only a few dozen players. According to Todd Howard, between 24 to 32 players will interact per server. This limitation is intended to give players the feeling of being relatively “alone” in the post-apocalyptic world. Considering how large the area of Fallout 4 is and multiplying that by four for the world of Fallout 76, even with 32 players, you likely won’t constantly encounter other players.
You see every player on the map. One point that made Bethesda visibly nervous is that you always see exactly where the other players are. Whenever you open your map, you can see precisely where the other players are located. This obviously has some implications for gameplay:
- In the PvP of Fallout 76, it will be harder to surprise other players
- You can team up with others and attack specific players
- You can quickly seek help by looking for teammates on the map
- You can try to avoid other players
It is challenging to estimate how players will react to this feature. Especially PvP fans might be disappointed, as ambushes will likely be nearly impossible.
Update: It is now clear that there will be a stealth option allowing you to hide on the minimap in Fallout 76.
