Developer Bethesda shared the plans for the survival MMO Fallout 76 in 2020. The roadmap provides insights into 3 major updates and a season system. The highlight occurs in winter.
What is happening in 2020 in Fallout 76? In April, the major Wastelanders update was released and finally made the game what it should have been from the beginning. Many players were now eagerly waiting to see how the rest of the year would unfold.
Bethesda now has a fitting answer to this question in the form of a roadmap for 2020.
Part of the roadmap are 3 major updates, each of which will also start a new season. The season, in turn, offers you the opportunity to complete daily tasks to unlock new items and cosmetic gear.
What is the highlight? Fallout fans can look forward to the return of the Brotherhood of Steel. This is a type of knightly order that has a long tradition in the Fallout series and has already achieved legendary status. The faction even got its own Fallout game for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2004.
Remnants of the Brotherhood of Steel still exist in Fallout 76, but only in the form of corpses. It will return along with new NPCs in winter 2020.
New Progression System Through Seasons
What is behind the seasons? With Update 20, the first season will be introduced. All players will have access to a unified progression path.
This path is structured like a game board and offers you 100 ranks. By completing challenges, you will earn S.C.O.R.E points that advance you on the game board.
The rewards include:
- unique outfits
- items for your C.A.M.P.
- weapon skins or power armor paint
- consumables
- skill card packs
- atoms
- in-game currency like legendary scripts, bottle caps, or gold bars
How do you earn S.C.O.R.E points? You earn progression in the reward path through daily and weekly challenges, as well as by collecting XP and participating in public events.
However, the daily and weekly challenges will be adjusted to make them easier to complete through normal play of Fallout 76.
Can you buy advantages? Those who join a season later will have the option to catch up in the season pass. Therefore, you can unlock a rank for 150 atoms (about 1.50 euros, with discounts available when buying in bulk).
This feature will, however, be disabled for the first two weeks of the season.
Players should also be able to reach the final reward of a season without having to spend money. A rank-up is expected to take about 1 to 2 hours of gameplay, so the entire pass requires between 100 and 200 hours of gameplay.
An Update With Each New Season
What do the upcoming updates bring? Each summer, autumn, and winter, a new update is set to be released alongside the start of a season. Additionally, several returning events are planned for the time between the patches.
With Update 20 in summer, the following will be released:
- legendary perks
- public teams
- a new legendary boss event
In autumn, a brand new questline and adjustments to daily operations will follow.
The highlight, however, is set for winter.
What happens in the winter update? A major patch is expected at the end of the year, bringing back the Brotherhood of Steel. Along with it come:
- new NPCs
- new quests
- new companions
- new repeatable missions
- previously promised skill loadouts
- and C.A.M.P. shelters into the game.
It seems to be the next big update for Fallout 76.
