You find Fallout 76 great, but the FPS give you headaches just like me? Then I can reassure you, because those times are over for the next-gen consoles. So fire up your consoles and from now on wander through the wasteland with splendid 60 FPS .
Fallout 76 has been through a lot since its release in 2018. Bugs, low FPS, and stuttering, broken and forbidden items that divided the community. A lot of time has passed since then and many problems have also disappeared from the forests of West Virginia.
The only thing that bothered me and some other players was the performance of the game. The delivered 30 FPS were not only ugly but often disturbed the experience in Fallout 76. Because of this, I could neither enjoy the game nor play without complaints, because after just 2-3 hours of grind, I always got headaches.
I had hoped since my beginnings two years ago that Bethesda would finally show mercy and conduct a next-gen patch or upgrade to at least polish up the new consoles – in vain – until today.
Bethesda is always up for a surprise, as the developers released their latest update “When the Stars Align” on June 20. The update not only brought new bosses, weapons, and events, but also some “Quality of Life” improvements.
A big update like the previous ones that always ushered in a new season, but this time it was different. So I downloaded the 23 GB on my PS5 and wanted to revisit Fallout 76. However, when I examined the menu and the new game board, I noticed that the images were displayed more fluidly.
I didn’t want to voice my suspicion to avoid being disappointed in the end, so I loaded a public world and logged in. Upon arriving in West Tek, I moved my player and right at the first moment I threw my controller on the sofa. I couldn’t realize that I was seeing Fallout 76 – in 60 FPS.
A secret change that certainly no one expected, because the developers mentioned nothing of it in their patch notes (via fallout.bethesda.net). I read these three times and found nothing about it. An error or intentional? Well, both cannot be ruled out, and without a confirmation from the developers, we can only speculate.
However, I believe that this is intentional. Bethesda had already announced in advance (via fallout.bethesda.net) that they would let Fallout 4 shine in a new light. Players should be able to play the fourth installment of the series in 4k and with 60 FPS in 2023 when the next-gen update is released.
So far, it is still unknown when the next-gen update for Fallout 4 will be released, but I believe that the improved performance in Fallout 76 should be a first sign in that direction. A gift and a test to see whether the plans behind the polishing of Fallout 4 bear fruit – and they do.
Moreover, this secret change shows me that the developers have not forgotten their online game and their community. They are constantly working to further develop the game, and for me as a passionate fan of the wasteland, I can only welcome such a step.
If you have put down Fallout 76 because of the graphics, I can understand you. But with this change, you should perhaps give the game another chance. Personally, I have gotten back into Fallout 76 and this time I could even put down my controller without headaches.
Were you as positively surprised by this change as I was, or did you expect that Bethesda was already working on a polished version for the next-gen? Let me know in the comments!
