For Fallout 76, there is concern that PvP could ruin the game. Game Director Todd Howard talks in an interview about how this issue is being addressed – and how griefers will be made to have a harder time.
A bounty on griefers: Those who take out another player in Fallout 76 who does not want to engage in PvP will receive a bounty placed on them. Their “wanted level” increases and a kind of hunt is opened against them – which brings many disadvantages.
In Fallout 76, griefers are basically defenseless
If a player in Fallout 76 kills other players who do not want to, the killer no longer enjoys all the advantages of the game. They cannot do certain things that other players are allowed to do. What exactly those are has not yet been revealed by Howard – although some of the disadvantages have been mentioned.
Bounty and always visible. In an interview with Gamestar, Howard Todd explains: If a player behaves “like a jerk” in the PvP of Fallout 76, a bounty is placed on them. Any other player in the match can then hunt them.
The position of players who have a bounty on them is visible to every other player. They can no longer hide, and the hunt is on. When exactly a bounty is placed on players depends on various factors that the developers are still working on.
Griefers become “epic boss enemies”: A player who steps out of line becomes something like an “epic boss enemy” through this mechanism. Since their position is known to all players, and with the bounty comes a large reward, they become a welcome target for all other players.
In the current tests within the development team, such a manhunt brings great joy. As soon as a player has a bounty placed on them and is spotted, all others go after them.
Fallout 76 should be fun: According to Howard, the worst thing for Fallout 76 would be if you stopped playing because others take the fun away from you. This includes ensuring that PvP does not intrude on the co-op area – and conversely, PvE players are not forced into PvP.
How exactly players can decide not to participate in PvP has not yet been explained by Howard. It is very difficult to kill such players who choose against PvP – but according to Howard, it is possible. How Bethesda ultimately implements these ideas will be revealed by November 14 – the release date of Fallout 76.
