Everyone loves loot. At least, you’d think so. However, players in Fallout 76 have too much of it and are now complaining. Some items, in particular, are a thorn in their side.
What items are these? For many events and activities, there are items in Fallout 76 that players cannot do much with. Among the least popular rewards are:
- rockets
- cannonballs
- mini-nukes
- and especially floater grenades
There have been recurring threads about the latter in the Fallout 76 subreddit. User EggrFegegr is asking Bethesda to please stop giving him these grenades as a reward “for everything I do.” His post has now received over 2,300 upvotes with many similar reports.
The grenades have been in the game since the big Wastelanders update, which also introduced the namesake floaters. They have effects such as burning, poisoning, or freezing.
With the latest “One Wasteland” update, it seems there are more and more of these things. Rewards are generally a good thing, but these grenades seem to disturb the community a lot.
“Please stop giving me grenades for everything”
What is the problem with the grenades? On one hand, the grenades weigh 0.5 pounds, which is relatively heavy. Inventory space in Fallout 76 is quite limited, and too much weight leads to overencumbrance and slower movement. This has led to complaints before:
Moreover, players cannot even sell the grenades. Rockets and other ammunition can at least be exchanged with the new swapper.
However, the grenades clutter up the inventory. They are less effective than any other grenade, are heavy, and cannot be traded for a few caps with vendors. The only option left is to throw them away, in one way or another.

How could this be improved? Users are not only complaining about the grenades, but also providing suggestions on how to address the problem without removing grenades from the loot pool entirely. They see possible solutions in:
- simply making the grenades sellable
- increasing their damage and effects to make them more useful
- or reducing their crafting costs – they already require more rare materials than better grenades
The fact that grenades are not sellable at all is because they are considered “gold bar items.” The recipe for crafting them can be obtained for gold bars from faction vendors. Such items are usually very powerful and should not be traded among players, otherwise the weekly limitation on gold bars would become obsolete. The items would lose their exclusivity. It remains to be seen how the problem will be addressed.
