In Fallout 76, a new dupe bug emerged that allowed items to be duplicated. However, Bethesda reacted immediately, disabling the affected machines and is working hard on a hotfix.
What kind of bug was this? Previously, so-called dupe bugs plagued the online game, allowing items to be duplicated and Bethesda took strong action against these dupers. Now, the problem has resurfaced.
Until recently, it was possible in Fallout 76 to build a showcase and place an item inside it. After quitting the game and deleting the showcase, the item was returned to the storage and duplicated in the process. The same happened with machines. The bug apparently entered the game through the recently released Wastelanders update.
Why is this a problem? Some players exploit this to duplicate certain items, such as ammunition. Duping is a significant issue for the game’s economy, as more items can be offered for fewer caps.
This leads to honest players earning less or having to work harder. The duping exploit has previously caused players to call for a genuine hunt for cheaters.
Vending machines disabled – Developers react quickly
How did Bethesda respond? The developers immediately disabled the machines and showcases in the game after the dupe bug was discovered. You can no longer offer items for sale in the devices, and items that were previously designated as available for sale are no longer available for purchase by other players.
However, the machines and showcases are still present in the game. They seem to be empty. However, they still contain the items you assigned to them. Currently, no one can purchase them. Once the patch is implemented, the devices can be used normally again.
What about a patch? A hotfix was supposed to be released yesterday, April 20. However, Bethesda announced in the official forum that the patch will not arrive until April 22.
MeinMMO author Andreas says: Even though it is somewhat frustrating that the machines and showcases cannot be used at the moment, this is the best solution for the game. It simply takes time to discover the cause of the bug and develop a patch. During this time, Bethesda cannot allow unsupervised duplicating to continue. Therefore, it was necessary to temporarily disable the machines and showcases.
