On the weekend of October 2, 2020, C.A.M.P. accommodations were unlocked on the public test servers of Fallout 76. These are personal vaults that you can build yourself. The feature has generally been well-received – but there is also criticism.
What are C.A.M.P. accommodations? With C.A.M.P. accommodations (“Shelters”), you can build underground without using glitches for the first time. In selected instanced areas, you can build to your heart’s content – as long as you have enough materials.
At the beginning, there will be three different variants:
- Vault Supply Room: Available for free to everyone
- Vault Foyer: Initially only for Fallout 1st members, later available to all in the Atomic Shop
- Vault Atrium: Immediately available for purchase in the Atomic Shop after release
The three variants differ in size, layout, and style. When the Vault Foyer will be available for everyone in the Atomic Shop is currently unknown. From October 1 to October 4, 2020, they were tested on the Fallout 76 test server.
How do C.A.M.P. accommodations work? By the end of October, C.A.M.P. accommodations are set to appear on the live servers. Through a very short quest called “Home Expansion”, the ability to build your own Vault Supply Room will be unlocked. To do this, just build an entrance door to the accommodation in your C.A.M.P.
Once an instanced area has been entered, there will be the opportunity to build a C.A.M.P. accommodation. The respective accommodations can be built independently of the main C.A.M.P.
In the future, it will be possible to own up to four C.A.M.P.s in Appalachia.
When building in the instanced area, the three special accommodations have their own building budget, which is also independent of the main C.A.M.P.

Accommodations in Fallout 76 – The Better C.A.M.P.s
Housing in Fallout 76 can be exhausting: In his previous C.A.M.P., you never have peace – sometimes a friendly person comes by, sometimes a troublemaker wants to take over the area where you’ve settled.
On the other hand, you enter the game and are kindly informed that the desired building spot is not available on this server – it raises the question: switch servers or pack up the camp and build anew somewhere else?
This is why C.A.M.P. accommodations are better: With instanced C.A.M.P. accommodations, this problem is less drastic. Only the doors in the camp need to be present, the camp itself can be kept extremely minimal, and you can easily relocate it – if you want to. Everything else takes place underground.
While you may still encounter other players, at least your accommodation remains independent of the camp.
But who hasn’t dreamed of running their own Vault and shooing their “friends” around as Overseer or “sweetening” their lives?
What do players say about C.A.M.P. accommodations? In the subreddit for Fallout 76 as well as in the official forum, there has been quite a bit of feedback after the test. Vault101manguy gives a detailed summary of the advantages and writes:
- The floor itself serves as a grid, making it easier to plan rooms
- Parts can also be placed freely without snapping, allowing for more diverse interiors
- Most items can be placed freely – even in the air, allowing for shelves to be built and stocked independently. Floors can also be built without stairs more easily this way
Disadvantages include the absence of powered items and player shops, which could be a PTS issue that may still be resolved.
Vault101manguy himself is a true expert in C.A.M.P.s. He is responsible for some crazy ideas like:
- a catapult that throws two-headed cows
- a school where you die if you’re too bad at math
- deadly mazes that beginners should better avoid
Some other players also complain about the entrances to Vault being way too big, like Diamant_Raupe in his thread or user wastelandwalker.
However, there is also a lot of positive feedback in the respective threads. The beginning is promising, and Bethesda still has time to work on C.A.M.P. accommodations and implement additional features before release.
The accommodations will be particularly interesting for the creative minds among you. They allow you to unleash your creativity and bring wilder ideas to life. If you yourself are not blessed with the necessary creativity, fortunately, there are friendly players who will build the camp for you.
