The trouble surrounding the latest patch for the online game Fallout 76 has not yet subsided, and another wave of player frustration is piling up. This is because items have appeared in the Atom Shop that give buyers advantages in the game.
What happened? With the new “The Unstoppables!” package, which is now available in the Atom Shop, players can buy cool outfits for the in-game currency called Atoms. This currency can be purchased with real money, but sometimes Atoms are also earned as rewards in the game.
However, the outfits in the package are not just nice-looking cosmetic items. The clothing also offers a bonus for the wearers.
What bonuses do buyers of the outfits receive? Every team member wearing one of the costumes gains a +15 bonus to hit points, per person in the team.
However, this only works temporarily within the context of an event until February 4th.
A debate has erupted
How are the players reacting? As the mood within the Fallout 76 community is already heated due to the last patch, this frustrates players even more.
While some find the outfits cool, many feel that it is unacceptable for items that provide advantages in the game to be introduced “sneakily.” This is definitely seen as a Pay2Win element by some fans.
Since Bethesda stated prior to the release of the online game that they would not introduce Pay2Win items, some players now feel deceived.
Items that provide any game advantages and can be purchased with real money are seen as “Pay2Win” items.
However, there are even counter-voices. The outfit “Cloak of Secrets” (which also improves stats) can be earned for free, which has sparked a debate over whether the package in the Atom Shop still qualifies as a Pay2Win element.
The discussion comes for Bethesda at a very inconvenient time, as some have lost hope due to the last patch and have announced their intention to stop playing Fallout 76.
