If you want to survive safely in the wasteland of Appalachia in Fallout 76, you need the right weapon. One of the most popular firearms is the Handmade Rifle. However, getting the schematics for the gun is not that easy.
What is the Handmade Rifle? The Handmade Rifle is a weapon that was also present in Fallout 4. It doesn’t have an actual name. Instead, the weapon is simply referred to with the affix [Handmade].
The automatic rifle is modeled after the famous AK-47 and is a solid weapon for any level. It can even be modified with the rare material Ultracite and thus belongs to the strongest weapons for the endgame.
The “handmade rifle”: Find and build plans
Here are the plans: To get the schematics for the Handmade Rifle, you need to visit certain vendors. The vendors have a chance to have the recipe in their inventory:
- The vendor bot at Watoga Station
- Wallace in Harpers Ferry
- According to reports from some players, the wandering super mutant vendor Grahm
However, to even have a chance of seeing the recipe, you must be between level 15 and level 44. Players below or above this range will not find the recipe in the vendors’ inventory.
Getting the schematics under these conditions can therefore be quite difficult. Many players use the “server hopping” trick to increase their chances of finding the recipe.
Getting the recipe after level 44: The user LoLKolie on Reddit has found a way to get the recipe even after level 44. However, this method requires a bit more effort.
Northwest of Morgantown, you will find the penitentiary of the eastern region. It is crowded with super mutants and some scorched. If you enter the penitentiary, you have a chance to trigger the events “Patrol Duty” or “Prison Break”.
According to LoLKolie, “Patrol Duty” rewards you 100% with a recipe. This could also include the recipe for the Handmade Rifle.
How to craft the rifle: Once you have found and learned the recipe, you can craft the Handmade Rifle at any weapons workbench in Appalachia. You will need for the base version (level 15) the Gunsmith perk at level 3 and the following materials:
- 3 Copper
- 4 Adhesive
- 3 Gears
- 3 Oil
- 6 Springs
- 8 Steel
- 5 Wood
- 7 Screws
The Handmade Rifle fires with 5.56 ammunition and deals 48 damage with a range of 120 in its base version. The firearm is also highly customizable and therefore popular with many players.
