Since Fallout 76 received the Wastelanders update, you can acquire new and special items with the new currency Gold Bars. MeinMMO explains where to find the vendors, how to farm Gold Bars, and what you can exchange them for.
What are Gold Bars? Gold Bars are a new currency introduced with the massive Wastelanders update on April 14, which you can exchange for rewards at various vendors.
You can only obtain the bars after you have played through the new Wastelanders story to a relatively advanced point and unlocked the NPC Sunny in the Waywards Diner.
From this point on, you have the opportunity to buy, farm, and spend Gold Bars at vendors to obtain blueprints, armor, and more. Our guide will provide you with all the details.
Gold Bar Vendors – What are the Bars Good For?
What do I get for Bars? As a reward for the bars, you currently receive mainly new blueprints for weapons, armor, or even a brand new Power Armor, the T-65. You need the blueprints for some new items, such as:
- the Gauss Pistol
- the Plasma Caster
- the Secret Service Armor
Some recipes from the old Vault 94 raid, which is now closed, have already been discovered by players at the vendors. The price of the recipes is currently between 750 and 1500 Gold Bars.
If you are interested in the new bow from Wastelanders, you do not need Gold Bars for that. You can simply buy the blueprint from the faction vendors for Caps.
Here are the locations of the vendors: There are a total of three Gold Bar vendors that you can find in Appalachia:
- Reginald “Regs” Stone in Vault 79
- Mortimer in Crater, the Raider base
- Samuel in Foundation, the Settler base

With Mortimer and Samuel, you gain access to more items as your reputation with the Raiders or Settlers increases. In the future, more rewards may appear in the vendors’ offerings.
However, you must make a choice between the two factions as the story progresses to join one of them.
Farming Gold Bars – Here’s How
If you have reached the endgame of Wastelanders and want to obtain the new recipes, there are two ways to get Gold Bars:
- You buy them
- Or you earn them.
- Both, however, are subject to a limit.
If you exhaust all avenues for obtaining Gold Bars, you should be able to collect about 1700 per week.
The Easy Way: Buy Gold Bars
The easiest way to get Gold Bars is simply to buy them. You can do this from Smiley in the Waywards, whom you should have unlocked after completing the main quest of Wastelanders.
At Smiley, you receive 50 Gold Bars for 1000 Caps each. However, you can only do this a maximum of six times per week, allowing for a maximum of 300 Gold Bars per week. In total, this will cost you 6000 Caps.

You can obtain Caps, for example, from a hidden treasure when you follow a specific deer. You can find more ways to obtain the currency of Fallout 76 in our guide:
The Longer Way: Exchange Gold Bars
If you have too little money, too much time, or have already exhausted your supply of Gold Bars with Smiley, you can instead exchange Treasury Notes at the Gold Presses for Gold Bars.
The two Gold Presses are located in Crater (near Meg) and Foundation (across from Samuel). You can receive up to 200 Gold Bars per day for Notes.
You receive the Notes for completing daily faction quests from the Raiders and Settlers, and for completing events in Wastelanders. For each event, you receive between two and four Treasury Notes.
With Wastelanders, several new events were added that are particularly worthwhile, especially for higher-level players. For example, in “Radiation Rumble,” you are guaranteed to receive a legendary item as a reward. Events have generally undergone a revision and are now significantly more enjoyable and clearer.
