Fallout 76 has been grappling with a serious issue for quite some time. This has also annoyed many players. With scheduled maintenance today, on June 2nd, the problem is finally supposed to be fixed.
What is this issue? For over a month now, there have been problems with dupers in Fallout 76 again. These are players who exploit glitches to duplicate their items, thus accumulating large amounts of powerful and rare items.
On April 21, 2020, the developers disabled vending machines and display cases for this reason. They were presumably the source of the problem. Since then, players have not been able to access either in their camps.

What is happening now? The problem seemingly resurfaced with the new, big Wastelanders update. However, with the maintenance on Tuesday, June 2nd, it is supposed to be resolved. Since around 5 PM German time, the servers are back online. The developers state in a post in the official forum:
With today’s maintenance, we have made vending machines and display cases available again, and you should be able to use them in your camp from now on.
The problem is big and annoying
That’s why the fix was so important: Dupers have been a problem for some time now and Bethesda has already taken strong measures against them in the past. The big issue with them is that they destroy the game’s economy.
Without having to put in much effort themselves, they obtain valuable items and sell them to other players. This allows them to generally offer cheaper prices than any fair player while also raking in caps.
To prevent this from happening a second time, Bethesda preemptively disabled the vending machines. However, this has also annoyed players in the long run, as the feature is quite popular. Nevertheless, it seems that only this way could more severe consequences be avoided.
What’s next? Now that the vending machines are functioning again, all features of Fallout 76 should be usable once more. Currently, the Fasnacht event is running for the second time. This was the first seasonal event that Fallout 76 ever had.
There you can snag masks and other cosmetics by helping the bots in Helvetia organize a parade. The event has been taken offline due to some issues and has now been extended. It will last until June 9th. At the same time, from June 4th to June 8th at 6 PM German time, an event for double experience points is running.
For the future, Bethesda has also announced plans. In a big roadmap for 2020 for Fallout 76, there is information about upcoming content. There will be seasons, a free season pass, and a reunion with a legendary faction, among other things.
