Bethesda has released a new patch for Fallout 76. This increases the storage box capacity by a whopping 50%. Ideal when you find a weapon that you will definitely use someday in the future…
What does the update change? With the latest update from January 26, 2021, the developers have increased the storage box capacity to 1,200. This makes the storage three times larger than at launch:
- The storage started with a capacity of 400
- After player demands, it was increased to 600
- With “Wild Appalachia” and patch 6 the previous limit of 800 came
The storage is used to store various items – weapons, armor, important junk, or even more important ammunition. It quickly accumulates a lot, especially if you don’t want to part with anything.
Why are they doing this? The size of the storage has been a topic in the community since the release of Fallout 76, and players have repeatedly demanded a higher limit or even the abolition of a limit.
There is obviously too much to collect in the world, and all you collectors out there don’t want to part with your weapons that you probably will never use. Fortunately, you can now cheerfully continue collecting, at least until the new limit.

Larger storage box and improved inventory
This is also changing: Together with the larger storage, changes to the inventory system of Fallout 76 and player shops are being introduced. The changes summarized:
- The inventory now features the tabs “New”, “Armor”, and “Food/Drink” for better overview
- For stacked items, the total weight is now displayed, so you know exactly how much the items weigh
- On the map, you can now see how many legendary items with one, two, or three stars a player offers in their shop
Additionally, there is a new color code for camps that should help color-blind players better recognize where they can place buildings and where they cannot. This is another step by Bethesda to invite players with disabilities.

What’s next? The game is currently experiencing its first season about the Steel Brotherhood, which narrates the origin story of the legendary faction. The story will unfold for a while longer, and you can witness how the knights in shining power armor rise to the power they already hold in the other Fallout titles.
