You won’t be bored in West Virginia: In Fallout 76 you have a plethora of side content available alongside the main content.
Over 150 hours of “Side Content”: Bethesda mentioned in the official Xbox Magazine in the December issue that Fallout 76 is set to receive a lot of side content. Over 150 hours of “Side Content” should be available at the launch of the game.
The side content could tell entire stories
Bethesda often embeds stories in side quests: There has been no specific statement yet regarding what the content will look like. However, based on predecessors like other Fallout titles or “The Elder Scrolls,” it can be inferred that they will likely be side quests.
In these games, players had a relatively short main quest and dozens of side quests to complete. While these were optional, they told a significant part of the story of the world and are therefore very popular.
What do side quests look like in Fallout 76? Cardiner also spoke in this context about how dangerous the story of Fallout 76 will be. It will unfold differently than in other Fallout or “The Elder Scrolls” entries.
You will encounter familiar NPC factions in Fallout 76 and receive messages from people who are already dead. Their terminals and audio recordings can tell you who they are and what happened to them. They bring life to the world in place of human NPCs.
However, the game continues while you read a terminal and want to learn something about the story. You can be ambushed at any time if you don’t have a group to protect you.
Survival is more important: Due to the sheer amount of content available, some people have expressed concerns that the game could end up in chaos. If everyone is equipped through side missions, the game could become chaotic later on.
The project leader Jeff Cardiner allayed these fears. According to him, survival is more important at any point than wasting items.
One should carefully consider in the “endgame” whether to throw that one Fatman bomb, which one farmed for hours, at the player over there, or to save it for the next boss instead.
More is coming: The mentioned 150 hours of side content is merely the content that is set to release with the game on November 14. Not included are the additional contents that will be released after launch.
Upcoming content includes gameplay updates and DLCs that will all be free. A season pass is not planned. Instead, funding will be through microtransactions for “Atoms”.
When can I check it out? The “Fallout 76” beta starts on October 23 for the Xbox One, but for us, in the middle of the night. PC and PS4 will start testing a week later.
You can transfer your beta progress to the final game when it is finally released on November 14.
