Bethesda plans to make some changes to the Atomic Shop of the online game Fallout 76. These will be based on player feedback. However, the community is not pleased at all.
Which items should be offered in the Atomic Shop? Bethesda explains that useful items such as repair kits and the refrigerator are received better by players than cosmetic items. Therefore, the focus will also be more in this direction in the future.
However, they should not be Pay2Win items.
More useful items instead of cosmetics
What did Bethesda originally want to offer in the shop? It was initially said that there would only be cosmetic items. But in April, the team introduced repair kits in the shop. These offer slight advantages in the game, although there is debate on whether they can really be labeled as Pay2Win.
In September, a refrigerator for storing perishable items and a Collectron station, which sends out robots to collect junk for you, were added. Here too, cries of Pay2Win were heard.
Why is the community upset? Many players of Fallout 76 feel mocked because it was initially said that there would be only cosmetic items available in the Atomic Shop. Now, however, more and more items are finding their way into the game that promise certain advantages. Some accuse Bethesda of having broken their promise.
Why are the developers doing this? According to the current “Out of the Vault” article, the team has noticed that cosmetic items are not enough to keep the game interesting. Furthermore, useful items have been received much better by the players.
Moreover, fans of Fallout 76 are said to have requested more usable items, and now this wish is being fulfilled.
The community is upset
How are players reacting to this? There is much discussion about this change. There is concern that Fallout 76 could turn into a Pay2Win game if more corresponding items can be purchased in the Atomic Shop and even offer advantages in the game.
Many also do not understand how, after all the criticism of the repair kits and the refrigerator, Bethesda can believe that players want even more such items. The mood is currently extremely tense.
- g92ers comments, for example, on Reddit: “They probably think we’re idiots.”
- bramlugh writes sarcastically: “Of course, the players hated the items so much that they bought several of them!”
- Someonewithopinionss says: “The Atomic Shop worries me about what monetization for the game will look like in the future…”
Other users, such as TrinityCXV, see it differently: “I’m waiting to see what these useful things will be. But I’m not really a fan of the idea.”
What does Bethesda say about the matter? We have asked Bethesda for a statement, but have not yet received a response, except that they are looking into it and will let us know.
We will provide the statement as soon as we receive it.
