Bethesda talks in a new preview about the upcoming patch regarding changes to the weapon and combat system of Fallout 76. Fans are very excited about this, even though some of them didn’t even know they were missing these changes.
What will change? In a new “From the Vault” Bethesda discusses improvements in combat and controls. The focus is primarily on changes that aim to provide more quality and a smoother gameplay experience.
The adjustments bring innovations to Fallout 76, as seen in some other shooters and battle royale games, such as Apex Legends.
The changes in detail
What changes in the combat system: A lot of changes will be made to all weapons, which will affect the combat system:
- Players can display the damage caused by weapons. This option can be set separately for adventure and survival mode.
- The animation for drawing or stowing a weapon can be interrupted by firing the weapon.
- Aiming with iron sights or scopes will be significantly faster.
- Reloading will be interrupted by sprinting, and you can sprint immediately after firing, making escaping easier and movement a bit more dynamic.
Additionally, it will be removed that looking around with a controller after firing a weapon is eliminated. This is intended to improve controller handling and is particularly interesting for players on PS4 and Xbox One.
What changes to the weapons: In addition to the changes to the combat system, many weapons will receive adjustments. They will receive reticles for first-person view.
Among the selected weapons, many of the heavy weapons that have previously received a buff are included:
- Gatlings (except Gatling Laser)
- Minigun
- Broadside
- .50 Cal MG
- Automatic Grenade Launcher
- Fatman
- Harpoon Gun
- Paddleball
With the reticles, aiming and hitting should become easier and more dynamic. Players will spend less time aligning their shots on the target.
When do the changes come? No specific date has been mentioned yet. The changes will come with Patch 10 “in June.”
How the changes will come
The upcoming improvements have already been discussed on reddit. All new features have been well received and many players see them as a step in the right direction. Especially the display of damage numbers excites the fans:
I didn’t know until now that I wanted damage numbers. Can’t wait.

The changes have even sparked rumors about new game modes. At least one new mode is expected to arrive with Nuclear Winter, the next big update for Fallout 76, after Wild Appalachia is now complete. A player suspects a deathmatch mode.
More about Fallout 76 will be revealed by Bethesda at E3 2019. The press conference will take place in the night from Sunday, June 9 to Monday, June 10 at 2:30 AM:
