There is a controversy regarding a product related to Fallout 76: The popular Power Armor helmet, known from a Collector’s Edition, is being recalled in the USA.
Why is the helmet being recalled? Since September 19, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of the Power Armor helmet. It is suspected that the fabric insert in the helmet may contain traces of mold.
Because the mold poses a health risk, the product is now being recalled.
Helmet with Mold Not from Official Power Armor Edition
What’s behind the recall: In a statement, Bethesda said that the affected helmet was not available on the German market. The helmet in question is from an exclusive sales promotion by GameStop North America.
The statement:
The current recall of the Fallout 76 helmets does not affect the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition. The affected helmets are from an exclusive sales promotion by GameStop North America. They are a separate merchandise product and specifically not the helmet from the Power Armor Edition. This product was never officially sold in Germany. Customers who purchased the helmet at GameStop North America can find more information about the recall on the website of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
We know a similar helmet from a Collector’s Edition that was released at the launch of Fallout 76 with some special content. This edition also included a Power Armor helmet that you can wear. However, this helmet is not affected. They are different helmets.
What is so special about the Power Armor helmet? The edition with the Power Armor helmet sold out long before the launch in November here in Germany. In addition to the helmet, there were also other goodies, such as a carrying bag, 24 small figures, and a map in the edition. It’s great that this edition is not affected by the recall.
The helmet itself has cool sound effects and even a voice changer built in.
It is not the first time that a product related to Fallout 76 faces criticism. Last year, there were issues with the carrying bag that was included in this edition, which also contains the Power Armor helmet.
The bag was advertised as genuine canvas, but ultimately the product was made of nylon. In the end, the atmosphere became more conciliatory after the genuine canvas bags for buyers were supposed to be provided.
