At the E3 2019 Bethesda announced that Fallout 76 is supposed to be playable for free for a week. This week starts now. What the update brings and how you can play, you can find out here.
When is Fallout 76 free to play? Fallout 76 has been back online since around 7:15 PM and is now available to play for free. The event lasts a week, from June 10 to June 17.
Additionally, the already announced Patch 10 with weapon and combat improvements has been applied. You can find the full patch notes on the official website.
Here’s how to participate: If you want to play Fallout 76 for free, you first need to download the game:
- On PC, you need the Bethesda.net Launcher.
- On PS4, the game should be easily downloadable via the PlayStation Store. PS Plus is required.
- On Xbox One, the game should be easily downloadable via the Microsoft Store. Xbox Gold is required.
On Bethesda’s official website, you can find all additional download links.

What’s included in the free week: In the announcement for Fallout 76, the developers also spoke about the new content that the game will receive. During the free testing week, there will already be a Battle Royale mode included that belongs to the new “Nuclear Winter” update.
However, every player will have access to the full game, not just the BR mode. This means each player can:
- play both the adventure (PvE) and the survival mode (PvP).
- utilize new features such as player shops.
- drop nukes if they reach the level early enough.
- face the Sheepsquatch and visit dungeons .

We recommend that for a better experience, you find a handful of friends with whom you can explore Appalachia together – or experienced players who will surely be happy to help you. Fallout 76 can also be enjoyed alone.
What is “Nuclear Winter”? The playable update “Nuclear Winter” is the second of three major updates that Fallout 76 is set to receive in 2019. “Nuclear Winter” includes both the new mode and Vaults 94 and 96 as raids, as well as more story. However, the raids and the new story will come at a later time.
