A new update is being released for the survival MMO Fallout 76 and it brings a bunch of new features and improvements. MeinMMO shows you what to expect in Appalachia starting today, May 19.
What is this update about? On May 19, maintenance began for Fallout 76 around 5:00 PM to bring a new patch for the recently released huge Wastelanders update. The new update is free for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Highlights of today’s update include a new feature for the various Wastelanders companions, a treasure hunt, and the fixing of a whopping 126 bugs.
Additionally, the return of the very first seasonal event of Fallout 76, the Fasnacht, has been announced. It will start on May 25 and be playable for one week.
How big is the update? Depending on which platform you play on, the update is of different sizes:
- PC: 4.1 GB for Bethesda.net; 5.9 GB for Steam
- PlayStation 4: 8.6 GB
- Xbox One: 10.7 GB
It is still unknown when the servers will be back online. Typically, the servers have been back online by 7:00 PM after an update. However, since this update is a bit larger, it may take longer.
Update on May 19 for PC, PS4, Xbox One – Patch Notes
What bugs are being fixed? The bug fixes include a number of improvements for server and client stability, which should prevent Fallout 76 from crashing during gameplay. Especially on the PS4, this has been a problem since Wastelanders.
In addition, a bug affecting popular stealth builds is being fixed. Previously, players could be detected when they received the stealth status from multiple sources, such as from certain perks. This should no longer happen.
Several bug fixes for quests, the interface, and the elimination of exploits that allowed players to duplicate items are also included. A duplication exploit recently occurred with a quick reaction from the devs.

Companion Costumes
A highlight of the new update is that you can now equip your companions with new clothing. All items that you can wear can now also be equipped on your companions at the camp.
There is a new “customize” option as an interaction with your companions. However, the clothing is purely cosmetic and will not grant any stats to the NPCs.
You can now dress your favorite companion in something that suits them better—or you. After all, you can even form a relationship with Sofia and Becket. Why not dress alike or in nicer clothes?
If you destroy the camp item needed for the companion, the companion will revert to their original appearance. Additionally, the selected clothing is not active when you are in an instance with them.
New and Returning Events
Which event is returning? The Fasnacht event is the first seasonal event that Fallout 76 has ever had. It first appeared in March 2019 as part of the “Wild Appalachia” update and invited players to help some Protectrons hold their holiday parade through the town of Helvetia.
As a reward, there were cool cosmetic items for the camp and unique masks that players could collect. However, not everyone was able to get the items they wanted, and many hoped to see the event again.
All masks and rewards from last year are returning, along with new items that will be available for the first time this year. The event will run from May 25 (Monday) to June 1. The parade starts every hour on the hour.
What is the new event? Additionally, starting May 21 (Thursday), a treasure hunt event will take place. Some Mole Miners have gone in search of treasures in Ash Heap, and you can hunt them down.
These new legendary Mole Miners will drop buckets, or “Loot Bags,” of various tiers, in which you can find outfits and plans. How long the event will be available has not yet been revealed by the developers.
What else is changing?
In addition to the highlights and bug fixes, there will be some improvements for the backpacks introduced in April 2019, updates for item naming, and a new time-limited event for the battle royale mode Nuclear Winter.
Additionally, the new weapons from Wastelanders will be available in Nuclear Winter, such as the new bow, the Gauss shotgun, and the Cattle Prod. There are also numerous bug fixes for Nuclear Winter, affecting the camp and perks.
For the future, Fallout 76 has a lot planned as well. Recently, the developers published a roadmap for Fallout 76 in 2020. It promises many new cool features as well as the return of a legendary faction.
