After players have completed the main story in Fallout 76 and reached level 50, many ask themselves the question: What should I do now? There’s still plenty to see and do in Appalachia. We’ll show you what level 50 players are up to in the endgame of Fallout 76.
What is the endgame in Fallout 76? Once you reach level 50 in Fallout 76, you can no longer accumulate new S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points as you continue to level up. It’s something like the “max level”, although you can still collect perks.
If you have also completed the main quest with the Enclave quest line, you have gone through the main content of the game and have reached the “endgame”. However, there’s still quite a bit to do here.
Things You Can Do in the Endgame
As a pure online multiplayer, the endgame in Fallout 76 is particularly important for keeping players entertained. Many players have already completed the main story. Here’s a list of things they can do to keep having fun.
1. Upgrade Your Gear
Most discussions revolve around the grind and the best armor and the best weapons for the endgame of Fallout 76. Most endgame players focus on finding the best weapon for their playstyle and upgrading it as much as possible.
Players roam the world after completing all quests, looking for events or locations where they can obtain recipes or rare items from enemies. Particularly sought after are the legendary weapons of Fallout 76.
As waiting for enemy respawns in Fallout 76 can sometimes be tedious, endgame players use what’s called “server hopping”. They switch servers after a farming round and utilize the respawn on the new server for the next round.
Estimably, most higher-level players spend their gameplay hours farming for new weapons and recipes and improving their gear. If you prefer to play in a team, you’ll definitely find people for a group.
2. Launch Nuclear Missiles
In Appalachia, there are currently three silos for nuclear missiles. These can be used by players to launch nuclear rockets somewhere on the map. You will need a code, an access card, and a cipher to decode.
When a nuclear missile strikes, the impact zone will be contaminated for a while. With the right (and especially strong) gear with high radiation resistance, you can collect the best loot and gather radioactive materials here.
If nuclear missiles are dropped on so-called rifts inhabited by scorchbeasts, a kind of super-boss, a Scorchbeast Queen, will even appear. Fighting the queen is an event for the whole map and offers the toughest battles so far.
3. Explore Appalachia
The vast map of Fallout 76 offers many places to discover. In Appalachia, there are dozens of caves, destroyed towns, and hidden hideouts that you won’t discover through the main quest.
Many players take the time to explore Appalachia even while leveling up. However, those who have only focused on the main quest can still see a lot. Just the side content covering many locations offers over 150 hours of additional content.
However, there are also many places in Appalachia that do not lead to a quest or event. They are mostly remote locations that are hard to reach and provide explorers with quaint scenes or additional information.
If you want to know more about West Virginia or are just looking for something to smile about, you should take a closer look.
4. Level Up Alternative Characters
Playing secondary or tertiary characters is also very popular. Since you cannot simply change your build in Fallout 76, some people play additional characters to try out new builds with new S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and perks.
Whether this will still be necessary in upcoming updates is not entirely clear. Soon, you will have the option to redistribute a skill point at level 50 instead of buying a new perk.
However, players also use alternative characters to acquire caps from traders more easily, to have more storage space, or to farm certain recipes. For example, the blueprint for the handmade rifle is only available to players of levels 15-44.
5. Tinker with Your C.A.M.P.
Fallout 76 offers the possibility to build your own bases and make them whatever you want. You can pack up your camp at any time and set it up elsewhere, allowing you to build your home in new places.
Some players enjoy fine-tuning their own home and want to make it their true virtual residence. They continuously gather more blueprints for building items and materials.
The only limit is the building limit imposed by your C.A.M.P. This can be raised by building with multiple people or at workshops, which you are likely to lose when logging out.
There are also stories of some players who have turned their C.A.M.P.s into starting points for newcomers or real restaurants where they can interact with other players. So you can also build a player hub or meeting place.
6. Engage in Roleplaying
Since Fallout 76 is not only a post-apocalyptic adventure but also a role-playing game, some players have decided to focus on a specific role rather than combat. They think about what kind of person they want to be in post-apocalyptic West Virginia and play that role out.
This leads to entertaining stories, such as one player who embodies one of the most annoying characters in the Fallout series in Fallout 76. Other players are currently even paying homage to the Mothman on reddit or bringing the Children of Atom to life.
However, there is also a dark side to this. A group of players has made it their mission in “roleplaying” to eradicate all gay people from Appalachia. They received a lifetime ban for their actions.
Most players report, however, that the community is incredibly friendly. Therefore, it shouldn’t be too difficult to engage in some hours of amusing role-playing with a clever role.
7. Check Out PvP
A smaller group of people also dedicates themselves to PvP in Fallout 76. Fighting against other players is generally a consensual matter in Fallout 76. Those who do not inflict damage on others take less damage themselves. However, if you kill others, you receive a bounty.
The system has led to PvP in Fallout 76 not receiving much attention. Most people ignore it, and reports suggest that PvP players troll or annoy others rather infrequently.
Nevertheless, there is the option to specifically search for other PvP enthusiasts via radio. For enthusiasts, there are even some discussions on reddit where good weapons for PvP are discussed.
What Could Be Improved?
Even though the endgame of Fallout 76 appears to offer a lot, there is criticism. A few things could be improved or made more pleasant. The most common and recurring criticisms are:
- confusing inventory, especially with already existing recipes
- issues with server stability
- boring endgame bosses, which drop worse loot than ghouls
- limitations in building
Some of these issues could be alleviated by mods. However, whether these are really allowed is still unclear. Private servers for Fallout 76 with custom settings are also often requested. But it may take some time before these arrive.
Have you also completed the story? How do you spend the endgame?
Our author Benedict had a lot of fun and some curious moments on his journey. Great quest design in Fallout 76 drove him to despair.
