The Battle Royale mode “Nuclear Winter” is still quite new in Fallout 76 and offers unique features. Some players may still have a few issues with it. At QuakeCon 2019, the developers provided some tips on how to win.
Where do the tips come from? During the Fallout 76 panel at QuakeCon 2019, the developers of Fallout 76 were asked about the future and state of the game.
Right at the beginning of the panel, the conversation turned to Nuclear Winter, the new Battle Royale in Fallout 76. This mode is now available as a permanent mode.
Content Manager Anne Lewis noted that she is “not one of the best players” and asked for some tips. Co-Studio Director Tom Mustaine took on the task of providing some helpful advice.
1. Pay attention to the surroundings: Play strategically
What kind of tip is this? Mustaine points out that it can often happen that enemies seem to appear out of nowhere.
He advised that it is important to pay attention to what is happening around you. Fallout 76 offers many details and opportunities to hide.
This leads to the entire environment serving both as protection and as an ambush. One should be careful where one steps and consider whether it is worth searching that suitcase up ahead for loot.
How do I implement this? You can adopt this tip in several ways for your playstyle:
- Watch out for bushes and trees – could enemies be lurking there?
- Use the environment itself and hide. Use camouflage to survive.
- Are you a good shot? Use the environment to set an ambush and take out enemies.
2. Coordinate with each other
What kind of tip is this? In his second tip, it’s about communication and using personal skills as effectively as possible. Teamwork is the keyword here.
In an anecdote, Mustaine explained how he played with Senior Community Manager Jessica Finster. Finster presumably likes to roam the world and the map to grab loot – even in Battle Royale.
However, she often ends up in the crossfire of other players. Mustaine and other team members now take advantage of this to flank the attackers and eliminate them since they have revealed their position. Finster sees this as a “sacrifice for the team”
How do I implement this? The core of the tip is that you should coordinate with the team. Play together, for example, by:
- using one player as bait to take out entire teams.
- coordinating who will loot which house or secure a certain area.
- coordinating with the team and teaming up with players who complement your playstyle or use the appropriate mutations.
3. Use the C.A.M.P.s
What kind of tip is this? As a final tip, Mustaine notes that Fallout 76 offers the special feature of C.A.M.P.s in Battle Royale. These structures are similar to the building system in the genre king Fortnite.
In Nuclear Winter, you can also use blueprints that you create in Adventure Mode and use in Battle Royale. This is a feature that many forget. Blueprints allow you to place pre-made C.A.M.P.s directly.
As an example, Mustaine mentioned that some players and testers like to place whole forests of small houses or latrines as C.A.M.P.s. In the dozens of huts, players then hope for loot. However, when they search them, the owners of the C.A.M.P.s are waiting there with shotguns to farm easy kills on unsuspecting players.
How do I implement this? The most important thing about the tip is simply not to forget that this building system and the option for blueprints exist:
- Use Adventure Mode to create blueprints.
- Think about how you want to build the C.A.M.P.: A trap, a fortress, something offensive, or completely crazy C.A.M.P.s?
- Use the environment. A forest of houses in the middle of nowhere is likely to be somewhat conspicuous.
Are there any more tips?
This is what the other developers say: Co-Studio Director Mark Tardiff also briefly spoke up. His tip was, however, only that you should team up with players who are better than you. But you shouldn’t rely on his tips because according to his own statement, you would be better off asking him for hair care tips (Note: He has hardly any hair).
Nuclear Winter is set to receive a new location soon. Instead of Flatwoods, Morgantown will become the center of the action. New information about upcoming features in PvE has also been revealed:
