Bethesda is currently having a tough time. The company seems to be stumbling from one misstep to the next and is now trying to mitigate damages. For example, with the bags that came with the Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76.
Bethesda now wants to appease buyers of the Collector’s Edition of Fallout 76 and is offering to send out the “real” canvas bags.
The “Bag Scandal”
What happened? Bethesda announced a canvas bag for the Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76. Without notifying customers, this was replaced with a nylon one.
A shitstorm followed. Especially after it became known that Bethesda had produced canvas backpacks, but gave them to YouTubers instead of the buyers of the Collector’s Edition.
A compensation of 500 atoms for the online game was perceived as a mockery by many players.
How is Bethesda responding? The company announced via Twitter that it is working on replacements for the bags. Canvas bags are currently being produced. Those who purchased a Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76 should contact Bethesda by January 31, 2019, and will then receive the replacement.
Players Have Lost Trust
How are players reacting? The decision to finally deliver the advertised bags pleases most fans. However, others seem too disappointed by how the situation around Fallout 76 has unfolded in recent weeks since the release.
Some players believe that Bethesda is not sending the new bags out of goodwill, but because their lawyers may have advised them to do so. After all, Bethesda is even facing a class action lawsuit. Among other things, due to the canvas bags.
For some players, it sounds suspicious, as Bethesda recently stated that the material was not available and they would not be doing anything about the bags. However, Bethesda has distanced itself from that statement. They subsequently described it as “outrageous and incorrect.” It came from a contract employee, not from a spokesperson for Bethesda.
