Today is the day the world will end. At least in the story of Fallout 76. But for Fallout, this is just the beginning – because what would the crazy game series be if it didn’t celebrate the worst day in history? And for players, there are even gifts.
What kind of day is this? On October 23, 2077 (Eastern Time), atomic bombs will fall on the USA and China, destroying large parts of the earth. After a prolonged skirmish between the two superpowers in the alternate world, the bang finally happens on this day. It is the Bombs Drop Day.
What is certainly the worst imaginable situation for humanity marks the beginning of the Fallout franchise. On this day, the foundation is laid for one of the most popular game series of all time.
Because the bombs and the irradiated wasteland are the reason why “Fallout” exists at all – and why Vault Dwellers, Couriers, and Wastelanders continue to explore the Wasteland, driven by many players.
And Fallout wouldn’t be Fallout if there weren’t a little celebration for this day – complete with gifts for everyone. But why all of this, actually? MeinMMO explains the “Bombs Drop Day” to you.
The world is destroyed so that Fallout can exist
This is the background: Communist China and capitalist USA have been at war for a while now. There are minor skirmishes, espionage, and above all, a lot of saber-rattling. On the morning of October 23, 2077, the bang finally occurs.
The sirens blare in the USA, and shortly thereafter, explosions shake the United States and China. Then it’s quiet, only 2 hours later, everything is over. Both countries are destroyed, the cities annihilated, and nearly all people wiped out.
Only the few souls who managed to flee into the (supposedly) safe Vaults survived – as well as a handful of fortunate ones who withstood the explosions and radiation outside the shelters. Many bear scars or mutations. Flora and fauna have also changed drastically.

New content and gifts in Fallout 76
This is happening in Fallout 76 right now: In the story, you can currently experience how the Brotherhood of Steel is evolving. There have been some internal problems recently, but with the summer update Steel Dominance, the story has been concluded for now.
The latest update named “The Worlds are in Transition” has brought more ways to play Fallout 76 – as even the developers didn’t know. The focus here is primarily on gameplay content. More story will follow later.
In addition, since October 19, there are some events and gifts for players in the context of the Bombs Drop Day.
What gifts are there? To celebrate the day when the bombs fell, there are some bonuses for active and new players in Fallout 76:
- From October 19 to 25, Fallout 76 is completely free on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
- At the same time, atoms for cosmetics are discounted in the real money shop
- Until October 26, there is also a 75% discount on purchasing the game
- Exchanging legendary items grants double Legendary Certificates
- Legendary items at the vendor cost 50% fewer certificates
Additionally, the Halloween event of the Creepy Burned is still running until November 2. Particularly dressed-up Burned can be relieved of their candies – with just a little bit of weapon violence. There are also Twitch Drops for special skins. You can read more about this in the official Fallout blog.
What’s next? In winter, Season 7 and the next major update “Tales from Afar” are on the agenda. With it, it will be possible to change the color of the Pip-Boy or share legendary loot.
Furthermore, the Mothman will play a major role, one of the many myths from the world of Fallout 76. Ideal for anyone interested in the backgrounds of Appalachia and West Virginia or exploring local legends.
Fallout 76 has evolved significantly since its release in November 2018. The game has recovered from its rocky start and the development team has continuously worked to improve content. On MeinMMO, it is therefore considered one of the best survival games for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox:

The few people who survived are now trying to rebuild their land. Or they loot what has not yet been destroyed, according to the law of the strongest.
A new order from the ashes
What is the story of Fallout? The governments are seemingly wiped out, and people are creating new orders. However, these new rules also give rise to a completely new breed of humans.
Some gather as “Raiders” and dominate parts of the new world as gangs. Former military personnel become part of the Brotherhood of Steel, a chivalric order that aims to preserve the knowledge of the old world.
Most people, however, simply want to continue living. New communities are being established, survivors banding together and repopulating the Wasteland. They learn to master the new creatures and cultivate the altered plants.
How does Fallout 76 fit into this? Fallout 76 takes place chronologically before all other Fallout titles: 25 years after the bombs fell. Vault 76 is one of the first to open as planned, and its residents – you – are all chosen experts tasked with rebuilding the USA.
With this setting, you have the opportunity to explore the beginnings of the series. Especially the legendary Brotherhood of Steel is just about to become the power you know from later titles like Fallout 4.
