Soon the NPCs will find their way into the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 76. As Bethesda explains now, you will even find companions with whom you can flirt like in Fallout 4.
What are companions? They are more like allies. You will meet NPCs for whom you complete quests. Some of these NPCs can become your allies, like Beckett, who wants to escape his past.
Through quests, you build a relationship with these allies. You learn more about them, and they will then support you in the game. However, you should not expect them to accompany you on your adventures like party members from some RPGs. That is not the case.
You are not alone anymore
What exactly do the allies do? Once you have built a trust relationship with them, they will wait for you in your C.A.M.P. There, they will offer you daily quests that will earn you XP and loot. You can also always talk to them, which brings a little more life into the game.
What is special about the NPCs? It is possible to build a special place for the allies in your C.A.M.P. For Beckett, this is a bar, for example. However, the trust relationship must already be somewhat established for that. In the bar, you can then order drinks, and Beckett will defend his favorite spot – and therefore also your C.A.M.P. – against attackers.
Keep in mind: Only after you have built the special object for an ally will he settle in your C.A.M.P. and wait for you there.
Pure Romance
How deep is the relationship between you and the allies? Bethesda writes on the official website: “The better you get to know the allies, the friendlier they will be towards you. And who knows, maybe a buddy friendship will turn into a post-apocalyptic romance.”
This suggests that just like in Fallout 4, you can enter into a romantic relationship with your allies. In Fallout 4, it was even possible to have sex, which gave you a temporary buff. Maybe that’s the case in Fallout 76 as well.
When will the NPCs come into play? The Wastelanders update will be released on April 7 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Mein-MMO author Andreas Bertits says: Honestly, I had already given up on Fallout 76. Not because I don’t want to give Bethesda’s online game a chance anymore, but simply because so many new games have been released in the meantime that are vying for my time, pushing Fallout 76 further down my pile of shame.
But the Wastelanders update sounds better and better. I just love it in an RPG when you have companions that have their own personalities and for whom I can complete quests. That makes a game more alive for me.
That Fallout 76 will now get not only NPCs but even allies surprised me so much that I will definitely reinstall the online game upon the release of the update and see how it has changed through the non-player characters. Hopefully, I won’t be as disappointed as I was at the release of Fallout 76…
